Mr. David “Vernon” Willis, age 83, of Elberton, Georgia, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday, November 5, 2025. Born on July 12, 1942, in Anderson, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Paul Willis and Rosa Beatrice (Nimmons) Willis.
Vernon dedicated most of his life to the textile industry, where he built lasting friendships and a reputation for hard work and integrity. A devoted member of New Bethel United Methodist Church, he was also a proud Mason who lived by the values of faith, fellowship, and service.
Known for his quick wit and love of cards, Vernon had a zest for life that was contagious. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his family, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.
In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Lorraine (Stratton) Willis; his siblings, Joyce Starrett, John R. Willis, and Frankie Willis; and his brother-in-law, Tommy Evans.
Left to carry on his legacy of love are his son, William David Willis of Elberton, GA, and his daughter, Sharon Mills (Ryan), of Bowman, GA; grandchildren, Summer Willis Milford (Jake), Brett Mills, and Tanner Mills (Amanda); and great-grandchildren, Hampton Milford, Halstyn Milford, and Peyton Mills. He is also survived by his niece, Cindy Agnew (Bill Gilstrap); great-nieces, Aspen Yessayan (Garen) and Claudia Agnew; and his sister-in-law, Lynne Evans and a brother in-law, Charles Starrett.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 12:00 PM at New Bethel United Methodist Church, 2708 Rock Branch Road, Elberton, GA 30635. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 11:00 AM, prior to the service.
Services have been entrusted to Coile and Hall Funeral Directors and Crematory, 333 E. Johnson Street, Hartwell, GA.
