With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Veronica " Betty" Silva Sarate on March 1st, 2025, at her home, with her loving family by her side.

Betty was born on November 4th, 1934, to Gabriel and Plajeres (Luna) Silva in Socorro, NM. She married the love of her life Stanley Sarate on September 26, 1953. Together they had 4 beautiful children, Priscilla, Bernadette, Flora, and Tommy. For 66 years they shared and embarked on a lifetime of memories where family was the foundation of their lives. In her younger years, Betty worked with the schools as a teacher aide, later went on to work at the Socorro General Hospital, and then at Good Sam until she retired. She did not stop working though, she began babysitting. She took care of her grandchildren as well as some she adopted as her grandchildren. She had so much fun with the kids, teaching them all to drive, bake, and cook. She loved them all dearly. Betty loved life, and a great life she had. She was an excellent cake baker and made most of her grandchildren’s wedding cakes. She loved to go to the Casino and would pack her bags immediately when we would say let's go. She loved shopping and going on long rides to see and experience new things. Most of all she loved her family. Her kids, her grandkids, her great grandkids and her great-great grandkids were everything to her. Her daily calls to her family just to check in and make sure they were good is what we will miss the most. She always ended her calls with “Come see me” or “Come over and visit”. Betty always worried about her last living sister Cece, always wanting to make sure she was ok. They spent a lot of time together remembering, laughing and crying.

Betty is survived by her daughters Priscilla Anaya, Bernadette (Anthony) Montoya, Flora Sarate, and her son Tommy (Stephanie) Sarate. Her sister Ceceila Zamora, and her brother Ernie Silva. 17 Grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 26 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews that she loved very much. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Stanley Sarate, her son-in-law Gilbert Anaya, her siblings Nick, Pete, Mike, and George Silva, Adela Lopez, Amelia Gallegos, Masie Ramon, and Vickie Gonzales. Betty will always be missed but forever in our Hearts!

Rosary March 18, 2025 at 9:30 am mass to follow at 10:00 am at the San Miguel Catholic Church in Socorro NM.

Burial will be at the La Sagrada Familia Cemetery in Lemitar, NM. Pall Bearers and

honorary Pall Bearers will be her grandchildren.
