Vicki Lyn Watson ObituaryLast Call for our dear friend Vicki Watson came Sunday, August 17th after a long and valiant struggle to overcome a deluge of health issues. True to form, Vic remained positive to the end, amusing hospital staff and calling most of her own shots.
Vicki was the loving daughter of Robert (Doc) and Martha (Steinhour) and sister to Robie – all of whom preceded her in death. She leaves behind her niece Carrie and great-niece Fiona.
Vicki also leaves behind a multitude of friends. She talked to everyone she met along the way (much to the distress of her friends on their tour of the streets of New York city). Most of her friends remained for a lifetime. All of her friends loved her.
Vicki worked at Parker Hannifin and the Cleveland Clinic most of her adult life, but her many passions unfolded after hours. Early on they were biking, skiing, wood-working and tennis. In mid-life golf was her game with the Briardale Birdies league sprinkled in with shooting pool and throwing darts. As age caught up with her there were a multitude of other activities to fill her days: Keno. Always Keno; any sports pool she came across; watching Netflix, Hallmark movies and vintage TV shows; playing Hold 'Em and Let it Ride at festivals and fund-raisers; drinking Coors Lite with buds at local gathering places sharing a glass of good red wine at local wineries; taking in a symphony to hear some friends marvelously perform; dining with her previous co-workers and keeping up with their lives.
Vic's quick wit was next to none, the life of every party – and there were many – birthdays weekends at the campground with golf, parades, costumes, line dances in the pavilion, twirling in the field under the stars Casino bus trips Mardi Gras parties Holiday walks and gatherings Harvesting grapes and working Vintage Ohio Golf outings Vacays with friends Investment Club meetings culminating on a warm summer night dancing polkas on "Fleet Street" Just coming together with friends was always a festive affair. She always had a story to tell or comment to make. With that twinkle in her eyes no one could ever be sure if she was serious or not. Her generosity knew no bounds.
Vic will forever remain among us: in the loss and love of our hearts; in the many stories we will certainly re-tell over and over; in the tears we shed; in the quiet and in the laughter of our gatherings. She was a true and unwavering friend to us all. Vic had this song in mind for her life celebration. Truly fitting for the life she lived
Rita Wilson's song "Throw Me A Party":
"I lived my life as kind as I could, I did my best, I hope it was good, I'll always wish I crossed a few more lines, but I always lived like there wasn't enough time. I'll leave footprints for you in the sand, a couple of notes only you'll understand. I have one wish that someday you'll see how much your love has meant to me.
So when I'm gone, throw me a party. You should dance as if I was there. Don't be sad or be broken hearted. Send your voices up in the air. Sing my songs and light up the sparklers. Tell my stories and drink all my wine. And know my life is just getting started. When I'm gone, Throw me a party."
We're on it Vic!
Thank you, Vicki for being such a vibrant and colorful thread in the tapestry of our lives, for celebrating our joys, for soothing our sorrows, for making our gatherings joyous and festive events. We love you. Always will.
