Vickie Anne Shaffner

Vickie Anne Shaffner, age 70, of Townsend, Delaware, passed away on August 29, 2025, at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Vickie was born in Wilmington Hospital's General Division on August 26, 1955, to Robert J. Shaffner and Carolyn M. Shaffner (nee Murray), both of Townsend, DE. She graduated from Middletown High School before receiving her bachelor's degree in early childhood education at the University of Delaware. Vickie brought her teaching skills back to her hometown schools, spending her career teaching sixth-grade English Language Arts and Ancient History at Redding Middle School for thirty-one years. Sixteen of those years, Vickie was president of the Appoquinimink Education Association. During many of these years, she also worked at Abendblume Kennel, caring for cats and teaching obedience classes to dogs and humans.
Vickie was born to teach, as every year, when the day after school had ended, she convened classes for each of us at home. This, of course, was endorsed by our mother. She had a lifelong love of hunting, fishing, and crabbing. She spent many hours reading and crafting, making lovely items for family and friends.
Vickie was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Carolyn Shaffner, and her partner Grant "Steve" Kiloski.
Vickie is lovingly survived by her brothers and sisters, Terry S. Lackie (Jon Lackie), George M. Shaffner (Carolyn Shaffner), Joseph M. Shaffner (Christina Shaffner), Carol S. Brunner (Michael Brunner), nephews, Joseph Shaffner, Jr. (Bronwen), Mitchell Shaffner (Susan), Jonathan Shaffner (Patricia), Andrew Shaffner, Matthew Shaffner (Dan), Grant Brunner (Naomi), niece, Rachael Brunner-Henry (Raymond) and ten great nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad, Middletown, DE, from 10 -11 am, and the memorial service will begin at 11 am. A private burial of ashes for the family will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna, DE. There will be a luncheon following the service at Middletown VFW, 5695 Summit Bridge Road, Townsend, DE 19734.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Nemours Children's Health, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, as she was passionate about the welfare of children.
