Wilmington - Victoria "Vickie" Hutchens VanNote, age 78, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, with her family by her side. She was born on January 18, 1948, in
Atlanta, Georgia, to Richard and Frances Hutchens.
Vickie is survived by her husband of 36 years, Dr. Robert VanNote; her daughter, Karen Johnson Ford (George); her son, Dr. Kevin Johnson (Heather); her brothers, Rich Hutchens (Wanda) and Hal Hutchens (Ann) of Columbia, South Carolina; and her sister, Debora Hutchens. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Kim Bahr of
Atlanta, Georgia, and Scott VanNote (Suzanne).
She was a devoted and loving grandmother to Cooper and Georgia Ford, Morgan and Brady Johnson, Sydney and Courtney VanNote, Jack and Michael Bahr, each of whom brought her great joy.
Vickie grew up in a military family, which allowed her to live in many places and fostered a lifelong appreciation for travel and new experiences. Alaska held a special place in her heart, and she often recalled living through the Great Alaska Earthquake of 1964-an experience she never forgot. Later in life, she frequently traveled to her favorite retreat, Cape Coral, Florida, with her family and friends, where she found peace, warmth, and happiness.
During her children's formative years, Vickie dedicated herself to her family as a homemaker and was always actively involved in her children's lives. Whether traveling for dance lessons, pageants, or sporting events, she was a constant and enthusiastic presence.
Vickie later enjoyed a long and fulfilling career working for John Jordan of Protocol, where she was employed for 19 years. She took great pride in her work and deeply cherished the friendships that developed during that time.
She was a faithful member of St. Andrews Covenant Presbyterian Church and the adult choir. Music and singing were among her greatest joys and remained an important part of her life.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 31, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Andrews Covenant Presbyterian Church, Brown Hall, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Paws4People Foundation or Nourish NC.
