Hawthorn Funeral Home announces the passing of Mrs. Vida Laraine Duke, 77. Of Carthage, Texas. Mrs. Vida Laraine McFadden Duke was born on August 22, 1946, in Logansport, Louisiana. She passed this life April 23, 2024, in Carthage, Texas. She was one of four children born to the marriage of Guy and Ellen Wimberly McFadden. She was raised and schooled in Logansport, graduating from Logansport High School and was a graduate of Panola College.
Vida married her love, Ollie Duke and together they celebrated many years of marriage and had one daughter before he preceded her in death. Mrs. Duke spent her career as a legal assistant until her retirement. She loved crafting, sewing and all things related to food and travel. She is also preceded in death by her parents, sister, Toni Lambert and her beloved daughter, Rachel Nail.
Mrs. Duke is survived by her loving granddaughter, Morgan Hunter and husband Patrick of College Station and their two children, Olive and Leona; sister, Analea Rosson and husband Gwynn of Dallas; Jimmy McFadden of Dallas; brother-in-law, Rushing Lambert of Rusk County; many other relatives and a host of friends. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Hawthorn Funeral Home.

I met Vida at the nursing home in Carthage. She was witty and always had a smile on her face. She had a way of making you feel comfortable and treated you like a friend. She loved her family. Talked about them often. Rest in peace Vida
