Mary Mac Thompson of Logansport, Louisiana passed away on May 1, 2025 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was born on April 26, 1944 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Glen and Elizabeth McCasland. The family moved to Logansport in 1948 where she eventually attended Logansport High School and was, among other activities, a cheerleader and a member of the Logansport High School Band.
Mary Mac graduated from Louisiana Tech with a Bachelor of Education in teaching in 1966, student taught and had her first teaching position in Caddo Parish. Mary carried on with her teaching career in Pasadena, Texas and then returned to Logansport to teach at Rosenwald Elementary. She then finished her teaching as a gifted and talented teacher at Logansport High School. In 1987 she earned a Masters Degree of Education from Northwestern University while teaching full-time in Logansport. After retirement in 2000, she became a student-teacher supervisor for Louisiana Tech University and Northwestern State University.
Mary sang in the choir at Logansport United Methodist Church where she was also a member of United Methodist Women. She loved serving and spreading the word of God on her missionary trips to Russia. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority at Louisiana Tech and Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society. Mary was a member of the Chamber of Commerce for Logansport and a member of the Tourist Bureau for DeSoto Parish. She was also a founding member of River City Fest and served as Mardi Gras Queen on the Krewe of Aquarius in 2007.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and brother, William “Bill” McCasland and wife, Robin. She is survived by her husband, Tom Thompson; son, Ben Daily (Kelly); daughter, Robin Achée (Chris); grandchildren, Jackson Daily (Aaliyah), Joshua “Sam” Daily, Sophy Claire Moon (Christopher), Elizabeth Achée and Collin Achée; nephew, Neil McCasland (Susan); nieces, Beth McCasland and Alyson Casey Ramesh (David).
A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2025 located at First United Methodist Church, 401 Gum St, Logansport, LA 71049. Funeral services honoring the life of Mary will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025, at the church with burial to follow at O.E. Price Cemetery, 2601 Old Mansfield Rd, Logansport, LA 71049. Officiating will be Rev. Joseph Guo with Rev. Marie Williams to assist. Honoring Mary as pallbearers will be Jackson Daily, Joshua “Sam” Daily, Collin Achée, Neil McCasland, Mark Price, and John Russell. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Moon, Mark Woods, Mark Magee, John Winchester, and Dean Register.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to First United Methodist Church Logansport Building and Believer Fund, P.O. Box 177, Logansport, LA 71049.
