Vida Belle McCord, a resident of Morgantown, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026 at the age of 98. She was born on June 15, 1927, in Masontown, WV to the late Howard Gibson and the late Irene (Keefover) Gibson. She lived a life marked by dedication, creativity, and an enduring love for her family and community.
Vida was a talented seamstress who devoted much of her career to the textile industry. She began working at Coleshire Manufacturing Company before continuing her skilled work at the Morgantown Shirt Factory. Her craftsmanship and attention to detail were hallmarks of her work, earning her respect and admiration from colleagues throughout her career.
She was a proud graduate of Masontown High School where her roots remained firmly planted. Beyond her professional life, she was a woman of diverse talents and interests. She had a deep passion for knitting, woodworking, quilting and crocheting. Vida also loved to travel, especially taking cruises, as well as the various trips with Senior Monongalians, Inc. These adventures enriched her life and allowed her to forge lasting memories with friends.
She is survived by her son, Allen McCord and his wife Debra; daughter, Lou Ellen McCord; grandchildren, Bryce McCord (Bobbi Jo), Brianne McCord (Chris Halterman), Victoria Bruce (Scott), and Matthew Powell; great-grandchildren, Allison McCord, Teagan Bruce, Barrett Bruce, and Layla Powell; and son-in-law, Frank Pratt. She is also survived by her beloved furbaby, Mac.
In addition to her parents, Vida was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Eural Kay McCord; daughter, Sandra Kay Pratt; siblings, Gordon Thomas Gibson, William Harold Gibson, Juanita Moran, Blanch Taylor, Dennis Gibson, and Janet Gamble.
Her presence enriched the lives of all who knew her, and her memory will be treasured by family, friends, and community alike.
Hastings Funeral Home has been entrusted with cremation arrangements. A private family committal service will take place at Lawnwood Cemetery.
