Vijay and I were part of the same onboarding group at Databricks, and I worked with him throughout our time there to support a handful of key customers. He was personable and fun to work with, and kept his standards very high. A great gentleman and human being. We'll miss you Vijay.

I remember many annual Christmas Day dim sum's with Vijay in SF so fondly, as he was often there for work, and would join our table. He taught many, directly, and through his talks and speeches and posts. I learned so much. My deepest condolences to Riga and Zoe. Vijay made an indelible and supremely positive dent on the Internet and we're all better off for it.

Riga and Zoe,
I can´t even begin to understand what your family must be going through with your loss. There are a handful of people who made as much of an impact as Vijay did for me, so I can only imagine how special he was for you.
I met Vijay in late 2014, before he came to Salesforce in 2015. There are few people I´ve hit it off with so well; it was uncanny and I remember we both mentioned that several times after he started. His No-nonsense crispness in feedback and questioning was my kind of vibe along with a healthy dose of pessimism even in compliments. "Dude, this actually doesn´t suck too bad!" "Solid"
At the same time, he deeply cared about the teams and the people. Maybe that´s how we really connected as we had a similar philosophy of transparency and letting team members know that we work for them. It built immense psychological safety in enabling people to be vulnerable and gave honest conversations. Along with his wicked IQ, that EQ was his secret sauce in what helped him build relationships and make real impact. The teams we built had a tremendous amount of success and made some massive impact in the industry and at Salesforce because of it. We would still reflect on those times recently and even Vijay would admit that he was "damn proud of that work." High praise from him for the team.
I was honored when he was hitting me up in 2020 and wanted to come work with me at Twilio. I´m proud of having been a part of bringing him over and seeing the impact he made with so many more people, many of whom he went on to work with at Rapid API. It´s been incredibly heartening to see the ripple effect he´s had in people´s lives.
There will never be another like him and I will dearly miss our discussions not to mention not having another chance to work together.
More importantly, I wish for joy and happiness for Riga and Zoe. Vijay would want us all to carry on - I can hear the voice saying "what´s with all the agita - just get in with it." With that, I will do so.
Thank you for the privilege. It´s been an honor.

As young pups in a violently-growing Internet space, I met Vijay during his time at UUnet when I worked for Cisco. We frequently chatted about all sorts of random topics on Internet Relay Chat, and then had our impassioned discussions in the close confines of the bar gatherings at industry events. Vijay had his passions, and ran with them - like me he was intensely curious and never seemed to settle. The world lost a bright light, and although Vijay would never take credit for it, he probably planted enough seeds in the next generation of thought leaders to carry on the lessons he taught daily. Rest in peace, my friend.

It is hard for words to express how deeply saddened I feel. My most sincerest sympathy to Riga and Zoe. Vijay was a colleague of mine at UUNet in 1999-2000 and later at MSFT in 2010-2012. Vijay had an interesting external persona, where he was no-nonsense straight shooter, however deep down he was an amazing guy who deeply cared for people and his friends. He had great respect for people who 'knew their stuff' and worked tirelessly towards bringing clarity to any conversation. I will dearly miss you my friend, so as many many others. Rest in peace.

To Riga, Zoe and Vijay's family,
I was truly blessed to have worked with and for Vijay. I was on his interview panel at Twilio where he was interviewing for a position as a peer of mine. Within the first 5 minutes of the interview I realized a few things: first, Vijay was not a peer...he was someone I was going to learn A LOT from. It became evident in a few sentences that he was head and shoulders above me, and I became (probably visibly) excited about the potential to work with him. Second, he was a kindred spirit. We immediately hit it off and actually completed a few of each other's sentences. I'd never experienced that in an interview before. Next, I knew he and I were going to be friends, whether he took the job or not. His intelligence, straight shooting candor, wicked sense of humor, and incredible storytelling skills enabled him to transmit highly technical topics in totally relatable and wildly entertaining ways. Last but certainly not least, everyone talks about the Vijay-isms. It's so true. He laid on some real gems that day, and I've repeated them numerous times since then. When Vijay joined RapidAPI and offered me a chance to work for him, I jumped. You don't pass up an opportunity to work for the best, and he is the best.
Anyone who spent more than 5 minutes with him will forever have his voice in the back of their minds, guiding them to the right decision, getting them to think critically about the things they hear, and calling BS when it needs to be called. To say "he will be missed" doesn't come close to capturing how the many people whose lives he touched are feeling. I know right now he's up there watching me write all this and saying "damn it Hudak, I'm not paying you to get all mushy about me...go SHIP SOME SOFTWARE!".
My heart does go out to you and your family and know you have a small army of supporters ready to do whatever we can for you in your time of need. Please use us. We're here for you. I attached one of my favorite pictures of Vijay from a recent trip we made to Tel Aviv. It ALWAYS makes me smile and I hope it does for you too. We were roommates on that trip and he had me laughing so hard I had to tell him to stop talking or I was going to lose my voice for a week!
Warmest,
Jason Hudak
