Vincas Algimantas Šnipas, 84, of Medfield, MA died on February 21, 2024. Born in Šakiai, Lithuania, he was the beloved son of Kunigunda and Vincas Pranas Šnipas. He leaves behind his wife of almost sixty years, Norma Razvad Šnipas, his daughter Naida and her husband Brooks Johnson, his son Vincas Pranas, and daughter Alysa and her husband Andris Veidis. He also leaves behind his five beloved grandchildren: Arijus and Aureja Johnson, Talis, Maris, and Sondeila Veidis. He is survived by his older sister Onute in Lithuania and predeceased by siblings Vladas, Eugenija, Vitalija, and Romas.
He was very proud of his Lithuanian heritage and raised his family bilingually and in a dual culture. Vincas was an educator for over forty years teaching middle-school children social sciences. While teaching, he also coached the girls' basketball teams. He himself excelled in both basketball and track and field.
Vincas was honored to serve in the U.S. Army and always proudly displayed the American flag outside of his home. He was active with the Lithuanian Scouts and spent many summers camping and teaching the scouts outdoor survival techniques. Vincas loved the outdoors, sitting by a campfire, singing songs, and reveling in the kinship that those activities created. He and his friends also took weekend canoe trips on northern New England's rivers.
He was a master craftsman in the fields of both carpentry and marquetry having produced many beautifully creative pieces of art.
Because Vincas loved all aspects of nature, he surrounded his property with flowering trees and bushes as well as fruit trees. He was the best applesauce and apple pie maker in the family!
Visiting hours will be held at The Casper Funeral Home, 187 Dorchester Street, South Boston on Wednesday, February 28 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Followed by a visiting hour in St. Peter Lithuanian Church, Thursday from 10:30-12:00. A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 12:00 p.m. Interment services will be private.
