Vincent (Vinny) Bruno, of Middle Island, NY, born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, passed surrounded by his loving Family including Nieces and Nephews who represented all the extended family, on Sunday, August 3rd, 2025. Vinny is survived by his wife Pat, his sons John and Robert, his daughter Denise whose late husband Joe was like another son to him, and his grandchildren Jake, Sean and Brooke who meant the world to him. My Lord, attending Jake and Sean's little league baseball games was such a thrill for him with Brooke playing with her toys nearby. And then, Brooke caught the bug and loved playing Softball. It was a glorious ride, living so close and being with them throughout their childhood, celebrating Holidays, Birthdays or just hanging out together. Witnessing all the childhood levels of their playing in our backyard, which culminated with an obsession with Wiffle Ball.
Vinny's parents Lucia and Michele Bruno had him late in life. He was the baby boy among 4 grown loving sisters, who gave him Nieces and Nephews, Mary (Lucille, Maryann and Michael), Angie (Paul and Michael), Rosie (Toni, Lulu and Freddie), Fran (Lawrence, Michael and Cathy) and Great Nieces and Nephews and now Great Great Nieces and Nephews. How Blessed he was, over all these years, sharing to this day, such a bond, despite the distances. Vinny is now with his Parents, Sisters and his Nieces and Nephews who predeceased him.
Vinny met Pat in Brooklyn, NY when they were kids. He was spoiled by his loving Sisters and he spoiled them and the extended family as it grew and Vinny became their go-to guy for fixing whatever was broken and he loved it! As he grew up, Vinny helped his parents at their Focacceria. Vinny worked at several jobs, post office, selling hot dogs, he was open to anything. And then he landed the best job at Western Electric. He was able to collaborate on and install communications equipment in various phone buildings in New York City and its boroughs. He just loved all the challenges in the various phone buildings he was assigned to. He loved and continued to keep in touch with his work buddies after retirement by phone or attending their monthly breakfasts at the Millennium Diner. To this day, they marveled at his vivid memory of names and places and jobs they worked on together. Vinny was called to work at the site of the first bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993.  He had clearance because of his service in the Army NGUS Armor, Brooklyn, NY and then brief transfer to Fort Knox Kentucky and then to the National Guard of New York. He was trained as a Track Vehicle Mechanic. He was released from Active-Duty training in 1964 and returned to National Guard of New York to complete military obligation of 5 years, 2 months and 13 days. Vinny loved to listen to rock and country music and standup comedians. He loved slapstick movies. His parents bought him his first car, 1965 GTO, green with stick shift which he drag-raced at the Riverhead Raceway, along with his future Best Man, Al Carletta. Pat and Lucille (Vinny's Niece and Al's future wife) would watch with worry. Pat and Vinny married in 1968 and Vinny became the Son to Emily and Tony that they never had and Brother to Renee and Diane, Pat's Sisters. He was loved deeply and he loved them. After Pat and Vinny married he sacrificed the stick shift to automatic because Pat just couldn't learn how to drive it. Now that's a loving supportive sacrifice made! Once the Dodgers moved out of town, the Mets became his team and has been ever since. Vinny loved the family he was born into, the family he married into and our adopted families.
