Vincent Edward Sheppard, born on August 16, 1941, in Landsdowne, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2024, at the age of 83. His beloved son, Dwayne, was by his side. Known as "Ed" to his family and "Vince" to his friends, he was a devoted father, son, brother, uncle, and friend who will be remembered for his loyalty, humor, and the love he shared with his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Vincent and Virginia (née Lewis) Sheppard, and his sisters Joan (Jack) Heck and Karen (Pete) Kazarian. In addition to his son, Vincent is survived by his siblings: Ginger (Frank, deceased) Sposaro, Maureen (John Jr.) Baraldi, Marion (Joseph, deceased) Shields, and James (Rose) Sheppard. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will cherish his memory.
Vincent spent his early years in Pennsylvania, where he attended Monsignor Bonner High School in Drexel Hill. He went on to serve his country for six years in the United States Army Reserves. He spent 33 years in the telecommunications industry working for Bell Telephone, AT&T, and Lucent Technologies.
Eighteen years ago, Vincent relocated from New Jersey to Sun City in Bluffton, South Carolina. In Bluffton, he found a new community and enjoyed working at the Hilton Head National Golf Course, where he was still employed at the time of his death. His co-workers nicknamed him "Vinny Van Go-Go" and appreciated his sense of humor and his willingness to bring donuts.
Vincent loved electronics and always needed to have the latest version of every gadget. He enjoyed binge-watching the latest Netflix show and cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles, whose games he would never watch live on the off chance that he might jinx them. Vincent was his son's biggest supporter, accompanying him across the country and around the world as Dwayne ran marathons. During their travels, they also completed several 5K races together. He remained close to his son's mother, Lynn (née Makim) Sheppard. During his brief illness, she was a source of comfort and support.
Vincent's life was one of service-to his country, his career, and his family. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the American Stroke Foundation or the American Diabetes Association.
