Dr. Clyde Vinson Alexander, Jr., known affectionately to many as Dr. Vinson Alexander, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on June 17, 1934, in Milan, Dr. Alexander's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family, his profession, and his faith.
Dr. Alexander's journey in academia began at Milan High School, where he graduated in the class of 1952. His thirst for knowledge and passion for medicine led him to Duke University, where he completed his undergraduate studies and went on to attend Duke Medical School, earning his degree in 1959. His commitment to excellence continued as he served his internship in Internal Medicine at Duke Medical Center from 1960 to 1963, later becoming the Chief Resident of Radiology. His early career was distinguished by his role as an Associate in Radiology at Duke Medical Center in 1963-1964.
In 1964, Dr. Alexander moved to Jackson, Tennessee, where he became a Staff Radiologist at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital (JMCGH). His expertise and leadership in the field of radiology were recognized when he was appointed Director of Radiology at JMCGH, a position he held with distinction until his retirement in July of 1999. Throughout his career, Dr. Alexander was revered by his colleagues and patients alike for his intelligence, wisdom, and thoughtful approach to patient care.
Dr. Alexander's Christian faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and interactions with those around him. He lived his beliefs through acts of kindness and his commitment to his community, where he was a respected and cherished figure.
Family was the heart of Dr. Alexander's world. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Alexander, and children: Clyde Vinson Alexander III, Kimberly Anne Satterfield, and Victoria Alexander. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Erin Bright, Corey Satterfield, Hannah Lyness, Abbey Goins, Meghan Matthews, and Caroline Creasy, as well as his great-grandchildren, Owen Satterfield, Roman Matthews, Salomé Matthews, and Gavin Goins. Each family member carries forward a piece of Dr. Alexander's spirit and teachings.
Those who knew Dr. Alexander will remember him for his generous mentorship and his unwavering integrity. His life was a testament to the power of dedication and the impact one individual can have on the lives of many. Dr. Alexander's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his influence will continue to be felt for generations to come.
Besides his parents, Dr. Vinson is preceded in death by brother, Hudson Alexander, and a sister, Anne Carter Lester.
