Billy "Bill" Eugene Alexander, age 73, of
Lebanon, VA, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 10, 2025. He was born on February 19, 1952, in Lebanon, the son of the late Lee and Ruby Mae Fields Alexander.
Bill was an excellent example of volunteerism and leadership in his community. His unwavering commitment to the Russell County Fair Association, starting in 1992, left a permanent mark, where he not only served on the Board of Directors but was also the creative force behind many of its key attractions and improvements.
A Magna Cum Laude graduate of Southwest Virginia Community College, he earned his degree in Electronics Technology and Electronics Servicing, Bill was a standout student. He served as President of the Electronics Club, was honored as a member of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society, and his academic excellence was recognized in Who's Who Among American Junior Colleges. He also attended other schools across the United States focusing on classes in Bio-Medical, Electrical, Mechanical, and Pneumatic Engineering.
Over the years, he received numerous awards including the Distinguished Alumnus Award and the Walk of Fame Award, both from SVCC. He also won the U.S. Army Award and multiple other science awards.
His professional journey was equally distinguished. As the Director of Engineering at Humana Hospital Clinch Valley, Bill's leadership and expertise garnered him the National Employee of the Year Award. While employed there, he oversaw hospital engineering departments in West Virginia and Kentucky. He also taught night classes at SVCC in engineering and helped other hospital engineers in bio-medical engineering all over the nation.
Bill's volunteer work with the scouting organizations demonstrated his commitment to nurturing the next generation. As a Cubmaster, Den Leader, and later Scoutmaster for Troop 239 Boy Scouts of America, he guided young minds in the spirit of adventure and community service. His dedication earned him the Woodbadge Award, the highest level of adult scout leader training, and the Pioneer Award from the Boy Scouts of America, an honor bestowed by the District for exceptional service.
Beyond scouting, Bill's involvement in a multitude of community initiatives showcased his wide-ranging impact. From serving as a camp director for the Sequoyah Council of the Boy Scouts of America and director of the Fall Camporee to volunteering for the Girl Scouts, Bill's influence was far-reaching. His efforts as Chair for local fundraisers, such as the Bike-a-Thon for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and his support for the Lebanon Barracuda Swim Team, Lebanon High School Pioneer Marching Band, and the Mock Trial Team, were just a few examples of his dedication to youth and community. A respected figure in the local business community, Bill was the President of Computer Electronics, Inc., a Radio Shack dealership.
Bill's legacy is one of selfless service, unwavering dedication, and a commitment to bettering the lives of those around him. His contributions will continue to resonate within the Russell County Fair, the scouting community, and every organization fortunate enough to have felt his influence. His memory will be cherished and his example followed by the countless individuals he inspired throughout his remarkable life.
