Sandra Jean "Sandy" Smith Musick
March 12, 1948 – November 2, 2025
Sandy was born in Coeburn, Va., and grew up in Cleveland, Va. After graduating high school, she moved to Bristol and attended Bristol Business College. She lived and worked in Bristol for more than 25 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Musick; parents, Louis and Betty Smith; loving stepmother, Eloise Smith; grandparents, "Daddy Bill" and Ilis Smith and "Boney" and Margaret Cook.
Following her brief and brutal battle with cancer, she went to her Heavenly home with her loving brother by her side. Due to their mother's illnesses during their childhood, she was always a second mother to her younger brother Dave. They were always close and present for each other. Dave tearfully said she has always been his hero.
Left to cherish her memories is her loving companion, Bill Breeding. She also leaves behind her loving brother, Dave (Beverly)Smith; her adoring nephews, Zachary (Jessica) Smith and Noah (Patti) Smith; special great nieces and nephews, Dawn, Henry, Zechariah, and Carolina Smith. They loved their "Aunt Sissy" and she adored them. She was also blessed to have her stepbrother, John (Barbara) Owen and his family and Bill's family in her life. She loved them all.
Sandy and Bill attended Euclid Baptist Church in Bristol, Va. She enjoyed traveling and reading and she loved animals. She loved her four-legged companion, Pepper, like a child. She leaves behind so many friends and extended family. From high school friends to roommates at the "Y" to her first career in a medical office. Those special "sisters" and lifelong traveling friends are Joie Shuler, Barbara Raber and Elizabeth "Liz" Carico.
The family would like to extend their extreme gratitude and respect to all of the staff at Maple Grove. She was treated with great professionalism and caring and compassion, like family. We also thank Caris Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, in the Owens Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Rick Smith officiating.
Pallbearers will be Zachary Smith, Noah Smith, Johnny Owen, Campbell Kiser, Michael Dotson, and Gary McCray.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Russell Memorial Cemetery in Lebanon.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service.

To Dave, Beverly and the entire family, I wish to extend my sincere condolences for the loss of your sister Sandy. My heart is sad right now knowing I won´t get to spend any more time here on this earth with Sandy, but I´m happy to know that one day I will see her again. I´m going to miss her terribly. She was my closest and dearest friend, and I loved her dearly.
