Obituary of Viola J. Chaffee
Viola J. Chaffee
January 15, 1942-October 18, 2023
Viola Jean Chaffee passed peacefully after a short battle with cancer. Vi was surrounded by family and friends in the few weeks preceding her death. Gratefully, there was a brief time for last conversations, hugs, and prayers. Vi is preceded in death by her husband David Chaffee, her father and mother Jacob and Helen Rutske, and her brothers (Raymond and Robert Rutske). Vi traveled the country with David living in Minnesota, Indiana, and Oklahoma. After David's retirement, they settled once again in Minnesota to be near family. It was back in Minnesota that her career would take off. She found her passion working for Path in the foster care system helping to place children with families who would love and care for them. This career lasted for more than 25 years and Vi made life-long friends. Never one to say no to an adventure, she enjoyed traveling, concerts, and spending time with her family. Vi was a dedicated wife to David, a loving mother to Chris Chaffee (Polly) and Melissa Chaffee-Johnson (Sheri), and a grandmother to Sofia Hastings. A visitation will be held on November 17th, 2023, at the Cremation Society of Minnesota in Edina. Visitation from 1:00- 2:00 p.m. with service to follow. A small reception will be held at the Big Bowl Restaurant in Edina for those wishing to attend.

One of my favorite parts of parties at Chaffee´s was the little visits I would have with Vi. What a wonderful, completely accepting human. I´m so sorry you have to let her go.
