Violet Veronica Lutheran Palumbo of Rockville Centre, New York, left our earthly world on the morning of September 20, 2022. Born on April 28, 1931 in the Bronx to Steve Lutheran and Julia (Szakacs) Lutheran, she was the daughter of Hungarian immigrants and passed her love of heritage along to her children and grandchildren. Violet graduated from The High School of Music and Art in Manhattan with a major in classical piano performance and went on to attend Queens College where she received her Bachelors and Master Degrees in Music.
Over the course of her life, Violet inspired a love for music in both her loved ones and her students. Violet was a public school teacher at Cornwell Avenue Elementary School in West Hempstead. For 25 years, she taught general music along with the school chorus. The joy of her career was preparing her students for concerts and musical productions for the parents and community to enjoy and cherish. She continued after retirement to teach piano lessons and released three recorded albums of her favorite classical piano compositions. Birthday greetings to loved ones were ushered in with a phone call featuring her piano and lilting soprano voice, a tradition that lasted decades as her family continued to grow.
Violet had many loving nicknames: The Contessa, Grandma Vi, ABCC, Ultra Violet and just Ma. She had a wonderful and witty sense of humor, a keen eye for antiques and art. She loved the movies, Bette Davis and Frank Sinatra. Above all, she loved her children, grandchildren, cousins, friends, students and her cat, Piffy.
She is survived by four sons and one daughter: Andrew (Elena), James (Liz), Steve (Nataliia), Frank (Lisa), and Lisa (Greg). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jacqui, Lauren, Andrew, Dallas, Cody, Julia, Sophia and Kathleen.
Her cremated remains will be placed in a columbarium at the Church of the Ascension in Rockville Centre, where she was a devoted member. A memorial service will be held there on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 11am.
