VIRGINIA G. BACKHUS
(BATTERMAN)
Age 90, of Mokena, born in Hillside IL, passed away on Friday, November 4th, 2022 at Smith Crossing in Orland Park.
Virginia is survived by her loving family, children, Craig (Marcy) Backhus, Deb Backhus, Karl Backhus, Karen (Robert) Healy, Anna (Dave) Boyle, grandchildren, Emily Benninghoff, Kurt Backhus, Kyle Backhus, Eric Boyle, Alec Backhus, Max Boyle, Brett Backhus, Sammi Boyle, Maddi Boyle, Ethan Healy, Aidan Healy and great grandchild Caleb Benninghoff.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore & Erna Batterman (Matthews), husband and high school sweetheart, Ronald W. Backhus whom she married on August 21st, 1954, brother, Ted (Marilyn) Batterman, brother-in-law, Charles (Ruth) Backhus.
Virginia was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Orland Park. She was a Registered Nurse and after retiring she worked at the Mokena Public Library for over 20 years until the age of 88. Virginia was a 50 year member of the Mokena Women's Club and a member of the Will County Homemakers Extension Association.
Family will receive friends, at Christ Lutheran Church, 14700 S. 94th Avenue, Orland Park, IL 60462 on Saturday, November 12th, 2022 from 10:00 AM until time of the funeral service at 12:00 PM. Interment will be private at Oakridge Cemetery, Hillside, IL. Donations to Christ Lutheran Church would be greatly appreciated. For information, www.kurtzmemorialchapel.com or 815-806-2225.
