Our loving mother, Virginia Lashendok Hood died peacefully in her sleep in November 2024, at her home in Somers Point, New Jersey. Two of her sons were in attendance, as they have been living with and caring for her once she entered hospice service. The Hood family thanks the personnel from Comfort Keepers, Angel Alliance Caregivers LLC and Holistic Care Hospice for their compassionate care. Virginia was several weeks shy of her 92nd birthday.
Virginia was the second child of Joseph Lashendok and Susannah Lashendok Zuchelli. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Mary Jean Lashendok and her brother, Gerald Lashendok as well as her beloved husband, Paul David Hood. Virginia grew up in the small town of Beaver Meadows, Pennsylvania, but moved after her father's death to Upper Darby. She was accepted into the Charles Ellis School for Girls in Newtown Square, where she lived until she graduated. Her passion for art started there and she fondly remembered creating a winter scene using the newly discovered Styrofoam. She was lucky enough to spend one summer with one of her school friends in Mexico City, Mexico, and attended plays with another friend in New York City. She worked for several years as a secretary before meeting her husband, Paul, at a USO dance in Philadelphia. After a short courtship (he asked her to marry him on their first date), they were married in 1953. The family quickly grew to six children in seven and half years as she was proud to repeat. We lived in Yeadon, Pennsylvania, and many remember her and the drives to and from the Bonner Mixer in the red station wagon with the wood toned sides. Virginia created many paintings over the years and was proud to show them several times, at public exhibition
Virginia is survived by her six children: Paul David (the late Karen) Hood II of Upper Darby, Pennsylvania; Jeannette (Tony) Bowden of Exton, Pennsylvania; Susan (the late Charlie) Parker of Somers Point, New Jersey; Malcolm (Vicki) Hood of Pomona, New Jersey; Cynthia (the late Joseph) Jachetti of Downingtown, Pennsylvania; and Robert (the late Lisa) Hood of Somers Point, New Jersey. She is also survived by her eleven grandchildren: Candace (Jim) Tweedy, Daniel (Ashley) Waldron, Megan Waldron, Ryan (Rachel) Waldron, Nick Bowden, Jessica (Sean) Meier, Katie (Daniel) Sconce, Joseph Hood, Mary (Jason) Lennon, Catherine (Emily) Trebilcock, and Robert (Allison) Jachetti; as well as ten great grandchildren: Jimmy, Freddy, Zoey, Danni, Lily, Royce, Kimberly, Nate, Griffin, and Wendy.
Virginia will be cremated, and the interment of ashes will be at Estelle Manor in New Jersey, next to her husband, Paul. A private memorial service with her family is being planned.
