Virginia Alice Ligon

Virginia "Ginny" Alice Laxton Ligon, age 78, passed peacefully on Saturday, October 18, 2025 in Suffolk, Virginia. She was born in Michigan to Thelma and Ferris Smith. Ginny is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Ligon; her son, Darren Laxton; grandson, John Reed; and siblings, Sharon Allen, Larry Smith, and Rodney Smith.
Ginny devoted over 30 years of her life to caring for her "little ones" as a beloved school bus driver for Suffolk Schools, faithfully transporting students of all ages. Many of the children she drove became like family, riding her bus from their first day of kindergarten all the way through high school graduation. On Sundays, she could always be found cheering on her favorite football teams-the Washington Redskins and the Detroit Lions. In her free time, she enjoyed fishing with her sons, playing Bingo, and spending time with those she loved most. Ginny was the heart of her family, known for the many delicious meals she lovingly prepared over the years. She found joy in watching and caring for the hummingbirds that visited her yard, and had a special fondness for all things panda-from her cozy panda slippers to her collection of stuffed bears. Ginny's warmth, humor, and dedication to her family and community will be deeply missed.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Kenny Laxton (Ginny) and John Laxton (Janet); step-children, Victor Ligon (Mary Sue), Daniel Ligon (Becky), Frannie Gray (Steve), Patti Ligon Kieffer; great-grandchild Winter; and many more loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 11:00 AM at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, North Suffolk Chapel. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 1, 2025. Condolences and flowers can be registered at rwbakerfh.com.
