Virginia (aka Ginger) earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Fordham University. She lived in Brooklyn NY for about 25 years working for maritime shipping lines. She accepted a transfer to Baltimore. After a few years, the shipping line left Baltimore, but Virginia remained in Baltimore and worked for an architectural firm for many years until she retired about ten years ago. Virginia comes from an Ohio family of small boat sailors. Although she did most of her sailing as a youth she always enjoyed being near water, especially at beaches and the ocean.
Virginia was fascinated by many things and was a lifelong learner. After retirement she loved taking classes at Renaissance Institute at Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore. She was a genuinely loving and caring person. It was discovered just recently that Virginia kept gratitude journals. This may partially explain her amazing ability to keep up with and genuinely care about what was happening in the individual lives of all of her numerous friends and relatives. One couldn't ask for a better friend than Virginia.
Friends may gather at St. Joseph Catholic Church on FRIDAY, January 10, 2025 from 9AM-10AM with a Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 10AM. Interment will immediately follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Valley City. In lieu of flowers please consider making donations in Virginia's name to an organization of your choice that helps those less fortunate and/or do something nice for someone.

Virginia was the first smile anyone saw in our architecture office in Baltimore, she knew everyone's name, she recognized most everyone who called by their voice. In a time when we are all so easily distracted by so much going on and with so much going on around her at our front desk, she had an amazing ability to be present - deeply engaged in conversation when you spoke with her and focused on you as a person. We too shared an upbringing in Ohio and she proudly wore her Ohio/Cleveland shirts when my wife Sue and I would have lunch with her after she retired. She was a very kind soul, and often went well out of her way to recognize others efforts - a handwritten note for doing something well, an act of kindness or a note of sympathy were a trademark of hers, that made others feel special. We will always remember her as a shining example of accepting others as they are, appreciating deeds, large and small and the importance of being a good listener and able to share the joy of a good story.

I worked with Virginia in Wilhelmsen Lines (USA) Inc, Baltimore MD from 1991 untill 1999. She was the most trustworthy, loving and wonderful person. After the company left Baltimore, we stayed in touch and we met several times when I traveled through Maryland on vacations. My wife Torunn and I really enjoied those "reunion dinners" with Virginia, Eric, Jill , Isaac and Florence. We will miss her allways.

I am so sorry to learn of Virginia's passing and will miss her sweet smile. On occasion I gave her a ride home. She was so appreciative. Sometimes leaving events early to catch the bus home and it was not at all out of my way. She will sorely be missed at Renaissance.. Jeanette Gaede

I have known Ginger for more than 60 plus years. I feel truly blessed to have such a good friend. She was the most loving ,generous and kindest person I ever met. She truly embodied the meaning of being present, being kind, being optimistic and living life to its fullest.
May those who love her find comfort in warm memories of the beautiful life that has passed. May you find peace in the assurance that an even more beautiful life has begun for Ginger.

Virginia was the only person at Renaissance with whom I could discuss the old Cleveland Browns!! We were both Ohio girls many many years ago. Virginia truly was one of the sweetest folks I met at Renaissance Institute. Kind, unassuming, with genuine warmth. I shall miss her smile.

Virginia was a long-time member of Renaissance Institute and she was always so kind, sweet and funny. She brought a ray of sunshine into the office with her. As Program Coordinator I was lucky to get to know Virginia on a personal level and I will miss her sorely. My condolences go out to Virginia's Family and Friends at this most difficult time.

Virginia was my neighbor for four years when I lived in Baltimore. She was so incredibly kind and caring. Virginia started inviting me to the outdoor courtyard behind our apartment building to eat our lunch outside & I got to learn so much about her life. She felt like a kindred spirit; my brother went to Fordham, I also grew up in Ohio, and we both loved the water. She liked to hear about the sailing I did in the Baltimore harbor. The thing that genuinely will stay with me about Virginia is how caring she was. Virginia was definitely wary of dogs and she once said to me "I don´t like dogs, but I like Ava." The day after my dog Ava passed, Virginia invited me to an orioles game. When I explained on the phone why I couldn´t go, I could tell by her response that she was genuinely devastated for me. She later gave me a card meant specifically for the loss of a dog and it was one of the most touching gestures I´ve ever received. Virginia didn´t have a car and shopped at the same local grocery store. I knew that card probably took her time to find. Whenever I felt alone in my grief I looked at that card and it brought me comfort knowing Virginia cared and that people cared. I hope her family in their time of grief know that so many people care. Virginia had such an amazing impact and I was lucky to know her. She created such a sense of community in our apartment building that wouldn´t have existed without her. I remember telling my boyfriend once my uhaul was packed with all my stuff that I would miss having such a kind neighbor and friend. I hope to pay forward the kindness she showed me. Virginia is a testament to how small acts of kindness have a big impact.
