Virginia M. Standburry was born on September 25, 1943 in Wadesboro, NC to the late Robert Colson Jr. and Elvia Colson. In 1962 Virginia graduated from JR Faison High School in Wadesboro, NC. Virginia also attended Norwalk Community Technical College where she earned her Associate Degree in Business Administration on May 23, 1991.
Virginia was a faithful member of Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church for over forty-five years. Virginia served as a Missionary and was part of the Senior Usher Board.
Virginia came to Stamford in 1962 and was first employed by Machett Laboratories.
Virginia retired from Pitney Bowes after thirty-five years of service. Virginia excelled in may positions in the administrative field. Virginia was eventually promoted to Supervisor of Lease Administration prior to her retirement.
Virginia was a member of the Elks (Shining Star Lodge) and she also was part of the Stamford Senior Center at the Yerwood Senior Group.
Virginia was predeceased by her parents Robert Colson Jr. & Elvia Colson, siblings Robert Odell Colson, Arthur Lee Colson, and husband Herbert Standburry and special niece Mary Lou Colson.
Virginia is survived by her children Darryl Colson, Valerie Beatty (Cephus Jr.), grandchildren Darius Nicholas Colson & Cephus James Beatty III, brother Lonnie Luther Colson (Linda Colson), special nieces Betty Wray and Brenda Richardson, special friends Barbara Evans and Cynthia Cunningham and bonus daughters, Marcia McNeil and Pam Ashford. Virginia is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday November 12, 2025 from 11:00AM – 12:00PM followed by a service of celebration at 12:00PM at Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, 29 Grove St., Stamford, CT.
Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien, CT.
