Virita Irene Bodey

Virita Irene Bodey, 84, of Anderson, Indiana, transitioned to her heavenly home on August 19, 2025, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She passed peacefully in Anderson, just one day after celebrating her birthday. She was born on August 18, 1941, in Anderson to the late John and Cecile (Hoppes) Priest. On March 3, 1962, Virita married the love of her life, James Bodey Jr., and they shared 62 wonderful years together until his passing on January 1, 2025. Their marriage was a true example of love, commitment, and partnership. Virita lived a full and meaningful life, guided by her love for family, faith, and history. A passionate genealogist and history enthusiast, she especially enjoyed studying the establishment of Jamestown in 1607. She was a proud member of the Jamestown Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her dedication to her community and faith was evident through her years as a weekday religious teacher and assistant, as well as her role as a Girl Scout leader. She was a former member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church and also a member of the Hoosier Model-T Club, where she enjoyed sharing her love of history and tradition. Above all, Virita cherished her family. She adored spending time with her grandchildren, caring for them, and watching them grow. Her love, encouragement, and wisdom will be treasured always. Virita is survived by her, daughter, Kendra (Coy) Porter of Anderson, IN; son, Allan (Donna) Bodey of Anderson, IN; brother, Ed (Jenee) Priest of Anderson, IN; sister, Cheryl (Bob) Latour; sister-in-law, Dianna Priest; granddaughter, Cassandra Bodey; grandson, Craig "Alex" Bodey; grandsons, Devon Matthias and Hunter Porter; granddaughters, Izabella Porter and Felicity Porter; beloved fur babies, Gracie & Abbie; and several nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Marion Bodey, Jr.; parents, John and Cecile Priest; son, Craig A. Bodey; brother, Craig Priest; and beloved fur babies, Grissom and Bindie. Visitation will be held 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 28th 2025 at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd Street, Anderson IN 46013.
