Vladimir D. Zagadsky, of Pawtucket, RI, passed away at home with his family by his side on July 24, 2025, at the age of 86. Born in Leningrad, USSR, to the late David and Ludmila (Podobed) Zagadsky, Vladimir's journey was one marked by resilience and a relentless pursuit of knowledge.
Vladimir's formative years, alongside his brother Edward who predeceased him, were spent in Kazakhstan after being evacuated due to the siege of Leningrad during World War II. His quest for education led him to the Saratov State Technical University in Russia, where he earned a Master's degree in Engineering. This academic achievement laid the foundation for a successful career as a mechanical engineer and machinist.
In 1989, Vladimir, alongside his family, embarked on a life-changing move from Odessa, Ukraine, to the United States. The transition required him to learn English, a challenge he accepted with the same tenacity that characterized his approach to all of life's obstacles. His adaptability and determination served as an inspiration to many.
A man of diverse interests, Vladimir never lost his deep love for classical music and singing, a passion that provided a soundtrack to his life's story as a member of several choirs. His previous experience as a mountain guide in the Urals was often on display during his favorite pastime, mushrooming, where his knowledge of the natural world was as impressive as it was practical.
Vladimir is survived by his wife; Tatyana Golub, his son; Dmitry Zagadsky, and wife Pamela, of South Kingstown, and his grandchildren; Alexander and Oliver Zagadsky.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Yelizaveta (Tsarukyanov) Zagadsky.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 1st, with visitation from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM, in the A. A. Mariani and Son Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins Street, Providence, RI 02904. Burial will be private.
Vladimir's life was a testament to the enduring spirit of curiosity and the strength of the human will. He will be remembered as a man who, despite the challenges he faced, remained courageous and endlessly interesting. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us, just as the classical melodies he adored will resonate through time.
