Voyad E. Davis Jr.

Voyad E. Davis, Jr., 84, completed his earthly journey and entered the presence of his Lord on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, surrounded by the love of his family.

Voyad was born in Wayne County on June 20, 1941, to the late Voyad E. Davis, Sr. and Clara Braxton Davis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hope Roberts Davis, with whom he shared many treasured years.

A proud graduate of Goldsboro High School, Class of 1959, Voyad answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army. He was honored to serve in General Patton's renowned "Hell on Wheels" division during the Korean War.

In 1965, Voyad began a distinguished career with the Goldsboro Police Department, where he faithfully served for 32 years, retiring in 1997 as Captain. During his service, he also earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Fayetteville State University in 1974. His dedication extended beyond his own work-he taught basic law enforcement at Wayne Community College for many years, shaping and inspiring the next generation of officers.

Voyad also excelled in competitive shooting as a member of the North Carolina Police Combat Pistol League, proudly bringing home numerous trophies and recognitions from competitions across the state.

Even in retirement, his desire to serve remained strong. Sworn in as a special deputy with the Wayne County Sheriff's Department by his longtime friend, Sheriff Carey Winders, Voyad continued to serve his community for another 20 years.

Away from his work, Voyad found joy in simple pleasures-especially fishing at the Bogue Inlet Pier in Emerald Isle with his wife, Hope. His faith was central to his life, and he attended The First Pentecostal Holiness Church for many years until his health no longer allowed him to attend.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park with Pastor Bill Rose officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Heather Goodman and husband, Jeff, and Melanie Prado; step-son, William "Bill" Tilley, IV and wife, Melanie; grandchildren, Lindsey Prado, Davis Goodman, Michael Goodman (Caethe), and Matthew Goodman; and sisters, Annette Hatch and Mary Bertlshofer.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff of UNC Wayne Wound Clinic, SMOC, and Kitty Askins Hospice Center for their compassion and excellent care.
