Charles Walker Ballance, jr. (Walker)

4/24/65 - 11/14/25

Gifted with a poet's soul and an unwavering, sometimes confounding determination to forge his own path, Walker loved unconditionally and was a remarkable father, friend and invaluable member of our family taken far too soon. He touched our lives, making us feel special and understood. Our hearts will endlessly ache for him.

Born and raised in Atlanta, he grew up-as so many of us did in the '60s and '70s-just a little wild, roaming the suburban jungles with barefoot confidence. Fueled by Hogan's Heroes and Captain Crunch, he carried himself with the mischievous charm of an all-boy imp, those bright blue eyes telegraphing trouble and delight in equal measure.

Walker graduated from Georgia Southern University and built a career as a videographer and producer, working for major corporations as well as on his own terms.

But the true story of Walker is written in his friendships and his passions. He was a devastatingly good storyteller. He loved photography and gifted many of us with images that caught the world at its most honest. He wrote screenplays and poems. He was a wicked whitewater kayaker and a fearless skier. He was a soft-hearted rescuer of down-and-out dogs that needed a home and a friend.

And yet, Walker's greatest love-the place where his heart sparkled and shone brightest-was in being a father to his two boys. He was their champion and their teacher, their coach and their protector. He was their hero. And they, in turn, brought him more joy, more purpose, more laughter and life than he ever imagined possible. They were his light. May he rest in peace.

Walker is survived by his sons, Parker Christian Ballance and Payton Walker Ballance, father Charles Walker Ballance, sister Anne Parker Ballance (Joel Newman) and niece Walker Elizabeth Newman. He was pre-deceased by his mother Judy Ballance Edwards.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at 11:00 AM in Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah, Ga 330 Bonaventure Rd, Savannah, GA 31404
