Walter W. (Bill) Bird – dedicated husband, father and friend – passed away in his sleep at home in
Edmond, OK on October 27, 2025.
Bill was born to Bernard and Marion Bird in Dallas, TX on January 15, 1953. He graduated from Jesuit College Preparatory School in 1971 before attending Texas Tech University, Richland Jr. College, and graduating from Oklahoma State University in 1978.
Bill and Marnie married on December 30, 1982, and welcomed her daughters, Nicole and Marlena, and stepson Lance into the family.
Through the years, Bill enjoyed playing golf, and spending time with his family. He and Marnie loved taking various golf trips, as Marnie became an accomplished golfer in her own right. Making annual trips to golf with his close friends, the Traveling Lindsey's, and visiting Neal's patio in Pilot Point Texas, was a highlight to each year.
Bill and Marnie called Edmond home for almost 28 years. Bill's career in golf course management took the family to various golf courses in OKC, Baton Rouge, LA, Ardmore, OK, and back to
Edmond, OK. After 24 years in the golf business, Bill made a change and went to work for the City of Oklahoma City as a Unit Operations Supervisor with the Parks and Recreation department for 20 years. It was also during this time Bill created a small yard business to help homeowners learn to manage their own lawns and was affectionately known as Cletus by many.
His eldest daughter's Nicole marriage and subsequent moving to the Netherlands, provided the opportunity for Bill and Marnie to visit Europe twice, visiting locations such as Paris, Amsterdam, Heidelberg, and Cologne. This was one of many highlights of Bill's life. Wanting his family to share that experience, Bill sent his youngest daughter, Marlena, to Europe to visit her sister the following year. Our family was completed by the addition of her marriage to Vilera Chilson and made us all a little more focused on embracing love for all.
Become a grandpa highlighted Bill's life with the addition of Quinn Elise in 2011.
Bill is survived by his wife Nancy (Marnie); their children Shawna Nicole and Marlena Dawn, Lance James Bland; and one grandchild Quinn Elise.
Bill lost his battle against cancer. His family wishes to extend a special thanks to the dedicated staff of Loving Care Hospice.
In his memory, donations can be made to the Angelman Syndrome Foundation, which will be used to fund research to find a cure for Angelman Syndrome.
Please join his family for a come-and-go memorial at Crawford Funeral Service on November 1, 2025, from 2pm-4pm.
His friends and family are invited to share happy memories and celebrate Bill's life in the way he would have wanted to be remembered – as a loving and caring man who enjoyed life.
