Gloria was born in Louisville, Kentucky and attended Central High School. She was married to Charles P. Harkins and followed him throughout his Air Force military career and retirement until his death. Gloria obtained a Nursing Degree in 1959 from the Wichita School of Practical Nursing and began her nursing career in many disciplines which also included pediatrics and psychiatrics. Her training and commenoriative and outstanding performances began in all locations that her husband was stationed which included Wichita, Kansas; Ellsworth A.F.B. in South Dakota; Presque Isle A.F. B. in Maine; Fort Meade VA Hospital in Sturgis, South Dakota; Plymouth, Minnesota; and finally back to the VA Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky were she retired after 30 years as a government civil employee. Gloria worked tirelessly while raising three children, Charles R. Harkins of Louisville, KY.; Fran R. Harkins of Hayward, CA.; and Pratt E. Harkins of Oklahoma City, OK. Her last seven years were spent with Pratt and his wife, Ellen who compassionately took care of her in her declining years until her death. She is survived by her three children, Charles, Fran, and Pratt along with daughter-in-law, Ellen Harkins; grandsons, Trae, James, Charles, Jeremiah, Jacob, Joseph; and grandchildren, Paxton, Leah and Andrew. Gloria leaves us with an appreciation for her wit, charm, humor, tenacity, loving heart and spirit and above all else her love and unwavering commitment to Jehovah, her God.
