ALEXANDRIA, IN – Former Alexandria resident Walter Lee Brewer, 90, met his Savior face to face on Sunday, June 1, 2025, from Millers Merry Manor in Marion following an extended illness.
Lee was born on June 12, 1934, in Broken Bow, Oklahoma to Walter and Sallie (Plyler) Brewer.
He was a graduate of Kirby High School-Class of 1953 in Kirby, Arkansas. Lee served his country in the United States Army being stationed in Germany. While in the service, Lee was a member of the Honor Guard which protected General George Patton. Lee had worked for National Gypsum, formerly of Alexandria. Later, he worked in the Horn Department of Delco-Remy, formerly of Anderson for 31 years, retiring in 1994. He had been a very active member of the Christian Congregation Church. He and his late wife Nina were strong supporters and workers in the 4-H Fair church food tent. He was a member of the former Alexandria Lions Club. While an Alexandria resident, Lee was one of the longest season ticket holders for Alexandria Tiger Basketball. Lee was the #1 fan of his sons athletics and later coaching. He followed through with the same loyal support to his grandchildren and their sports activities. He was a loyal fan of the Tampa Bay Rays, the Indiana Pacers, the New Castle Trojans and of course his beloved Alexandria Tigers.

10 Great-Grandchildren-Jasmyn Koch, Catalaya Koch, January Shepherd, Jemma Koch, Tripp Brewer, Finnley Shepherd, Haze Koch, Lainey Brewer, Cruz Brewer and Murphy Koch
Special Cousin-Sue (Gary) Carl of Huntington
Several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Nina (Huggins) Brewer in 2016, brother-Clifford Brewer, Half-siblings-John Brewer, Willy Lee Brewer and Bernice (Clarence) Babbitt
Services honoring Lee's life, legacy and faith will take place at 6 pm on Thursday, June 5, 2025, in the Owens Funeral Home,412 North Harrison Street, Alexandria Pastor Kevin Young and Lee's family members officiating. The Brewer family will receive friends after 4 pm on Thursday prior to the service in the funeral home. Cremation will follow the service. Inurnment with military honors in the Marion National Cemetery will take place at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association with envelopes available at the funeral home.
