Walter Lewis Durfey Jr. was born on December 30, 1968, at Memphis Naval Air Station in Tennessee to Walter and Christine Durfey. He was known to all as Walt or Walt Jr. Walt passed away peacefully on his family’s ranch near Lingleville TX on July 10, 2025.

Walt was very creative and artistic. He never met a challenge he wouldn’t tackle. He was always looking for the next challenge. He was an entrepreneur at heart and was never satisfied working for others.

Walt was diagnosed with cancer at the young age of 27. The prognosis was not good and the future was bleak. However, he didn’t let this hold him back from his dreams and aspirations. He pushed through the pain and sickness and continued to pursue his dreams. Every few years his health suffered a major setback back, including multiple surgeries and months in the hospital. Each time he would fight through the sickness and work his way back to health. He lived with constant pain and had difficulty breathing, but he didn’t let it hold him back. He would slow down and work at a pace his body could handle. He never let his sickness cloud his future dreams. He didn’t live worried that every day could be his last day, but rather with the mentality that every day was the first day to work on fulfilling his dreams.

His daughter Carli Lynn Durfey was born in 2001, and she became the center of his world. He was told that children were not a possibility, but God doesn’t listen to doctors.

Walt’s work and businesses took him from Arizona to West Virginia and from Louisiana to North Dakota. His last business was located in Minot North Dakota where he was able to pursue his passion of classic cars. His business, Angry Auto Group was his pride and joy. He worked long hours building the business even though his body was failing.

After another 6 month long health crisis in 2022-2023 he had to shut down his business and he moved to Glendive Montana where he resided until coming to Texas in May.

Walt is proceeded in death by his father Walter Lewis Durfey. He is survived by his mother Christine Wells Durfey of Stephenville TX, his daughter Carli Lynn Durfey of Scottsdale AZ, and his brothers, Neal Durfey and family of Sullivan OH, and JD Durfey and family of Stephenville TX.

Funeral services will be held Monday July 14 at 2 PM at Stephenville Funeral Home in Stephenville Texas with a brief graveside service at Mount Zion Cemetery. A visitation with the family will be held on Sunday July 13 from 6-8 PM at Stephenville Funeral Home.
