Doris June Wilson (Brown), 91, most recently living in Stephenville, TX passed away November 7, 2025. She was born October 11, 1934, in Lula, OK to Fred Arnold and Essie O. Brown (Davis). She was known as June or Junie Girl to those in her life.
June met her soul mate and the love of her life, Waldo W. Wilson, later marrying him on April 14, 1956. They shared a wonderful 62 years, six months, and 12 days supporting and loving one another before Waldo’s passing in 2018. Their life journey saw them living in 13 different towns [some more than once] including Durant, OK, Eads, CO, Wichita, KS, Pond Creek, OK, and Pauls Valley, OK before settling in Shallowater, TX in 1973.
She was a faithful and devoted wife who created a nurturing and supportive home environment that allowed Waldo to pursue his career while furthering his education. It was that environment and her dedication that provided her children with opportunities to gain experience and mature with loving support and guidance that all children need and should receive. It was that quality of character and nurturing nature that led her to operate an in-home daycare serving many families in Shallowater. As her own children were growing up, she was also known as an accomplished seamstress making clothes for them as well as nieces and nephews now and again. Additionally, her home culinary skills were second to no one other than perhaps her mother who passed those skills to her. They were true masters.
June was blessed with a grandson, granddaughter, and step-grandson she was able to positively impact and even spoil a little as grandmothers tend to do. While she did not craft as many clothes for them as she did her own children, she was known to make a few things such as baby clothes, doll clothes, hockey shorts, and even a hockey quilt with the assistance of her daughter-in-law, Kim, and Kim’s mother. She was also famous for her game day cookies. With Waldo, she attended many basketball and hockey games in support of Maki and Logan who affectionately called her Ninny and Grammie June, respectively.
June also had a granddaughter lost at birth. Though they never met, her love for Alicia Laurel prevailed and remained for life. Four years ago, she became a great-grandmother to Casey Robert and in September she was again blessed by the birth of two great-granddaughters Georgia June and Jackie Lyn. Though her time with those three was limited, her love for and bond with them knew no bounds.
June was a devout believer in God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. She accepted Jesus as her Lord, Savior, and Redeemer. At various times, she was a member of the Shadow Hills Baptist Church in Lubbock and the First Baptist Church in Shallowater. She took joy in church activities and various mission work the churches undertook. After moving to Stephenville, she attended the Cowboy Church of Erath County whenever she could. She would also study Scripture at home as her eyesight would permit.
June contributed in ways she probably never realized. Waldo would often talk about what a wonderful wife he had and how she never stopped working. Family and friends will tell you that she was always doing something for others and that they never knew a time that she put herself before others. Her legacy of giving and love will live on in those she touched along the way.
Survivors include son Steven Warren and wife, Kimberly Marie of Plano, TX; grandson Logan Grant Wilson and wife, Kaitlyn Michelle of Arlington, TX; granddaughter Aspen McKenzie Verett and husband, Cade of Stephenville, TX; step-grandson Devon Mitchell and wife, Natasha of Levelland, TX; great-grandson Casey Robert Wilson; great-granddaughters Jackie Lyn Wilson and Georgia June Verett; sister Pat Tharp of Columbus, GA; sister-in-law Sallie Ann Wilson of Owasso, OK; and several nieces and nephews.
June was preceded in death by her parents, husband Waldo W. Wilson, daughter June LaRail Wilson, and granddaughter Alicia Laurel Wilson.
Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Shallowater at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 15th with interment at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park at 15602 TX-493 Loop, Lubbock, TX 79423.
