WALTER LAKE GLANTON, JR., 55, beloved husband of Rachel Blitch Glanton, passed away June 11, 2025 in Wellstar MCG Health, Augusta, GA.
A native of Aiken County, Walter was a son of the late Walter L. Glanton, Sr. and Linda Sue Fields Harding. He lived most of his life in Aiken and Charleston Counties and worked in residential and commercial construction. He was currently working for Springhill Construction in Chapin, SC. Walter was very family-oriented and together with Rachel raised 9 children and many others young and old that called Walter’s home their own.
He adjusted his work schedule when the children were young so he could make it to the games and activities each child participated in throughout their elementary, middle and high school years. When you say words like merciful, devoted, a hard man but with a tender tempered heart, mindful, self-controlled, kind, and generous to fault - Walter was that kind of person. If he saw anyone in need he would stop, work on their car, give them money, food or a bottle of water and a conversation. Walter never met a stranger and he was afraid of nothing.
The people in Walter’s everyday life are an extensive extended family including the biological, the adopted, and the spiritual individual. Rachel has been known to say of Walter “He is either related to them, went to school with them, worked with them, or has fought them vocally or physically.”
This giant of man in character brought love filled correction to every soul God allowed him to encounter and then he would impart his wisdom, experience and humor. The many souls Walter touched and influenced are without number and he held each person near and dear to his heart and he prayed unyieldingly for each of you.
Surviving, in addition to Rachel, his wife of 35 years, is his children, Crissie Rainey (Dee Gonet), Carrie Urban, Brandon Mullin (Ashley), Cassie Brooks (Jeffrey Taylor II) and Harley Glanton-Cox, all of Charleston, SC, Kody Glanton, Aiken County, Kaleb Glanton, Windsor and Alexis Taylor, Barnwell; his grandchildren, Zayden Rainey, Brysen Brooks, Aiken Taylor, Oliver Taylor, Remington Hurcomb, Ryder Mullin, Karson Glanton-Cox, Kayven Rowland, Atlas Mullin. Walter is also survived by a brother, Travis Glanton, Aiken. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Tammy Widener and brothers, Tim Glanton and Tony Glanton.
The family will receive friends Saturday morning, June 21st beginning at 10 o’clock at University Parkway Church of God. The funeral service will follow at 11 o’clock at the church. Interment will be in Southlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ricky Moore, Chad Hurcomb, Marcus Opfer, Brandon Mullin, Zayden Rainey, Brysen Brooks, Ryan McCoy and Zack Hawkins.
