Walter Warren Gretz, Jr.; age 80, of Catalina, Arizona passed away suddenly on November 20, 2024 at his home in Catalina. Warren was born on August 27, 1944 in Wichita, Kansas to Pearl Fowler Gretz and Walter Gretz, Sr.
Warren was known for his many activities including HAM radio, airplanes, competitive shooting, photography, and horseback riding.
He served in the U.S. Airforce during Vietnam era at the GFAFB, ND where he was part of a five man team that installed missiles, guidance systems, and warheads on the Minute Men ICBM. Upon discharge, he was hired at Cessna Aircraft in Wichita, KS and worked in the military and Twin Division in the engineering department instrumentation shop at the Wallace plant located in Wichita Municipal Airport. His love of flying caused him to get his Private License, and his Commercial and Advance Ground School Instructor rating. He also received his multi-engine instrument and CFI ratings.
Warren spent the greater part of his work life at the National Renewable Energy Lab in Golden, CO where he was head of the photographic department. He became known for his photographic work in the alternative fuels and testing industry.
He is survived by his wife, Jan Mutchler and several cousins.
