Walter Lamar Jenkins, age 82, of Fayetteville, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025.
Walter was born on June 20, 1942, in Sandersville, Georgia, to the late Tommie and Willie Jenkins. In 1962, he met the love of his life, Julia. The two were married one year later following Mary's graduation, beginning a devoted marriage that would span more than six decades.
A year before their wedding, Walter enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served his country for 26 years, including during the Vietnam War. He took great pride in his military service and was rarely seen without his Vietnam veteran hat. His distinguished career took Walter and Julia around the world-from various locations across the United States to international assignments in Germany.
Walter was a man of deep faith and a dedicated member of Arran Lake Baptist Church since 1985, when he and Julia settled in the Fayetteville area. He remained active in church life for as long as his health allowed, serving faithfully as an usher and warmly greeting fellow worshippers.
Beyond his service to church and country, Walter had a passion for NASCAR, especially cheering on his favorite driver, Richard Petty. He also enjoyed taking daily walks through his neighborhood, always accompanied by his beloved dog, Bella. The two were inseparable, sharing a special bond that brought joy to all who knew them.
Walter is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Julia Jenkins; his daughters, Tina Jenkins and Tammy Jenkins; his grandson, Jonathan DuBose; and his nephews, Willie Elton Wood and James Lindsey Wood.
In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Lynn Jenkins, and his sister, Rosie Lee Wood.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 29,2025 at 1pm at Arran Lake Baptist Church. The family will receive friends an hour prior. Burial will follow the service at Cumberland Memorial Gardens.
In lieu flowers the family asks that you consider making a donation to Arran Lake Baptist Church, Baptist on Mission or Brother Wolf Animal Rescue in Walter's name, all of which had a major impact on his life.
