Walter C. Kania, affectionately known as "Zippy", of New Providence, NJ passed away at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the age of 72.
The visitation will be held at Paul Ippolito Berkeley Memorial, 646 Springfield Ave., Berkeley Hts., NJ on Thursday, March 13, 2025, from 2:30- 4 PM with words of remembrance to begin at 3:30 PM.
Walter was born in Elizabeth, NJ, the son of the late Janet Hedwig (nee Zyglarski) and Walter Clement Kania, and was a lifelong resident of New Providence.
He is lovingly remembered for his dedication to his family as a loving husband, father and grandfather. Walter cherished spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed baking bread, and especially writing, as he made writing his career.
Walter is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Barbara (nee Toye); his loving children, Elizabeth Lembo, Robin Salas, Tory Kania, Katie Minarick, and Nina Bontempo; his cherished grandchildren Brady and William Lembo, Ella and Maya Salas, John Minarick and Jack Bontempo; and his dear siblings, Chris Kania and Kathy DeMaio.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Walter's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
