Walter W. "Sonny" Kazmierczak, Jr., 90, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025 at the Residence of Village Greens in Sinking Spring. He was the devoted husband of Erma (Kleinsmith) Kazmierczak, with whom he shared 66 wonderful years.

Born in Reading, Walter was the son of the late Walter W. Kazmierczak, Sr., and Helen (Bialek) Kazmierczak. A proud graduate of Reading High School, Class of 1952, he went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy. Walter dedicated 35 years to Carpenter Technologies, where he worked as a steelworker. He also served as a loan campaign specialist for the United Way of Berks County, playing a vital role in their annual fundraising campaigns. Walter devoted over six decades to the Slovak Catholic Sokol organization, serving as a board member and trustee. His dedication was recognized with the Frank Petruff Award for his outstanding contributions to both the organization and the greater community.

He was also deeply involved with the Reading High School Marching Band, volunteering with the Band-Aids for more than 20 years. His passion for polka music led to further recognition from the International Polka Association, honoring his efforts in promoting the genre through his long-standing work with iHeart Radio's WRAW in Reading.

Even into his later years, Walter remained active, participating in bowling with the Reading Bowling Association until just three years ago.

Walter is survived by his wife, Erma; sons: Walter "Pete" Kazmierczak (Debbie) of Shillington, William "Bill" Kazmierczak (Debbie) of Reading; and Ronald Kazmierczak (Mario Ferretti) of Windermere, FL; grandsons: David (Amber), Andrew (Nicole), and George Kazmierczak (Christeen); granddaughter, Ellen Rohrbach (Michael); great grandchildren: Kenny, Tyler, Michelle, Ethan, Austin, and Hunter; and sister, Carol Hoover (James). Walter was predeceased by his sisters, Dolores Milanek and Gloria Jean Kazmierczak, and brother, Richard Kazmierczak.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, 3121 Kutztown Road, Reading. Friends and family are invited to a viewing on Wednesday, August 27, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading, and again at the church on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Entombment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Holy Guardian Angels RCC or United Way of Berks County, organizations close to Walter's heart.

Arrangements are entrusted to Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, PA 19611. Condolences may be expressed at kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
