The Legacy of Administrative Assistant Walter P. Mack, Jr.
Administrative Assistant Walter Peter Mack, Jr., is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, born on September 16, 1929. He is the son and only child born to the union of the late Elder Walter Peter Mack, Sr., and Evangelist Missionary Esther Williams Mack of New Orleans, Louisiana.
He attended both public and private schools in New Orleans, Louisiana, and graduated from Gilbert Academy. He also attended YMCA Business School and Xavier University.
He began his religious service in 1945 at Wilbon Chapel Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of the late Superintendent Willie L. Wilbon, Sr., where he served faithfully in many capacities.
God blessed him to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War in 1951. In his return, he continued to serve at Wilbon Chapel Church of God in Christ, as a singer and worker in the Sunday School Department.
After the Lord called his father to pastor and build a church on the Westbank of New Orleans, in
Harvey, Louisiana, through prayer and consecration, the Lord gave his father the name for the church, St. Peter Chapel Church of God in Christ. In 1956, he moved to the Westbank of New Orleans to assist his father in the ministry. In 1962, the Lord called him to another level of ministry, a licensed minister. He faithfully served in his local church and on District Two North, under the late Superintendent William Holmes.
On March 11, 1967, he married the love of his life, Charlotte Ann Harris Massey Mack, and from this union they were blessed with four beautiful, gifted children: two sons and two daughters; Walter P. Mack, III, Erastus Ian Mack, Dr. Arminta Scherrie Mack, and Letitia Kirsteen Mack-Jones.
In 1969, as his father's health began to decline, due to illness, he stepped up to carry on his father's ministry and was appointed to Pastor.
In 1970, he was ordained in ministry as an Elder in the Church of God in Christ, by the Louisiana Eastern Jurisdictional Prelate, Bishop W.K. Gordon, Sr. In addition, he served as the first male to become Assistant District Union Meeting Secretary, District Secretary, Assistant District Superintendent of the Sunday School Department, District Superintendent of the Sunday School Department and State Finance Committee Member.
After the demise of Superintendent Evariste Brown, of District Two North, he continued to serve faithfully and through prayer, he founded and pastored True Holiness Church of God in Christ, in
Marrero, Louisiana, while continuing pastoring the St. Peter Chapel Church of God in Christ, in
Harvey, Louisiana.
In 1981, he was appointed District Superintendent by Jurisdictional Prelate, Bishop W. K. Gordon, Sr., thereafter, Bishop W. K. Gordon, Sr., retired.
In 1987, he began serving under the Jurisdictional Prelate, Bishop Joseph A. Thompson in the following capacities: Pastor, District Superintendent, Jurisdictional Chief Adjutant, Jurisdictional Secretary, Member of the Jurisdictional Scholarship Committee, Ministerial Alliance Secretary and Jurisdictional Administrative Assistant.
Administrative Assistant Mack has received several honors and awards, certificates of appointments, achievements and recognitions for services rendered in ministry.
Under the leadership of Founders, Bishop Earl Leveige and Supervisor Almeta Leveige, of the Gethsemane Prison Ministry, Administrative Assistant Walter P. Mack, Jr., has served in the position of Chairman and was a member for approximately 25 years.
After the death of one of his Pastors within the District, he acquired Whole Truth Church of God in Christ, where he pastored for 20 years, while simultaneously pastoring St. Peter Chapel Church of God in Christ, where he pastored for 36 years.
He remained Pastor until the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, Louisiana, and surrounding areas in August 2005. After Hurricane Katrina, there was such devastation, his family eventually moved to
Knoxville, Tennessee, to recover from the storm conditions with his eldest son, Walter P. Mack, III.
It was in
Knoxville, Tennessee, he served at Children of God Ministries Church of God in Christ, under the capable and loving leadership of Superintendent Phillip D. Hamilton, Sr., and First Lady Sheila E. Hamilton, for a little over 14 years where he has served on the ministerial staff.
His love for his wife was so great, he served with her, as she was the Furniture Ministry Coordinator for the Knoxville area, through the Compassion Coalition Organization, where they served the underprivileged with furniture needs within the community and surrounding counties.
In 2017, while residing with their youngest son, Erastus Ian Mack, he was under watch care at the New Life Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, pastored by the faithful and loving Superintendent Carl and Lady Harolyn Davis in
Houston, Texas.
While functioning in his different capacities of Godly service, Administrative Assistant Walter P. Mack, Jr., considered himself as a humble servant of God. The motto he lived by for his entire life was, "I'm not striving to be popular. I just want to be pleasing to God!"
The Lord blessed him to live 94 years. He loved the Lord with all his heart and was very grateful for the many lives he touched during ministry. He has been a member of the Church of God in Christ for 79 years and credentialed for 62 years.
Administrative Assistant Mack looked to the Lord for all his benefits. "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28.
Early morning on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, Administrative Assistant Mack accepted his call to glory. He leaves to cherish his legacy and memories: his wife of 57 years, Charlotte Ann Harris Massey Mack; four children: Walter Peter Mack, III (LaTaisha), Dr. Arminta Scherrie Mack, Erastus Ian Mack (Renee), and Letitia Kirsteen Mack-Jones; fifteen unique grandchildren; Brittanie C. Mack-Brewster (Anthony Brewster), Kyrsten K. Jones-Smith (Jared Smith), Walter P. Mack, IV., Jeremy D. Mack, Aniiya Smith, Vincent Smith, Jenae' D. Davis, Chandler M. Davis, Arminta A. Davis, Don Davis, Jr., Johanan H.S. Davis, Trinity Pretlow, Nicco Conway; three precious great-grandsons; Hakeem J. Smith, Amir M. Smith, Jayden A. Brewster; three granddogs (Darbie, Zeus, & Adonis), one great granddog (Titus), two great grandcats (Ki & Meraz), one great guinea pig (Ephesians); sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents (Elder Walter P. Mack, Sr., and Evangelist Missionary Esther Williams Mack), grandson (Joshua Armon Davis), and granddaughter (Mi'Angel Davis).
