Walter Nixon Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Walter Cleveland Nixon, a cherished husband, father, and friend, who left this world on November 9, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on June 4, 1934, in Fountain County, Indiana, to Russell and Thelma (Wallace) Nixon. Walter lived a full life devoted to those he loved and the land he worked.

Walter graduated from Kingman High School in 1952 and proudly served in the Army from 1954 to 1956. He married the love of his life, Marilyn DeMotte, on December 14, 1974, and together they built a beautiful life in Kingman, Indiana. Walter was more than just a farmer; he was a hardworking soul who dedicated 28 years as a Teamster truck driver before returning to work for 18 years at Grubb Implement in Covington. Always the tireless worker, he could fix anything and was often found tinkering in his garage with a smile on his face. He loved gardening and had quite the green thumb.

Beyond his impressive work ethic, Walter was a devoted family man. He adored his wife, Marilyn, and was a loving father to his children. His family was his pride and joy, and he treasured every moment spent with them. He will be deeply missed but will forever live on in the memories of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Rest in peace, Walter. You've earned it.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marilyn of Kingman, six children, Robin Whittington of Kingman, Russell "Rusty" Nixon of Covington, Rose (Rick) DuBois of Terre Haute, Robby (Kelly) Woolwine of Kingman, Royce Nixon of Covington, and Rebecca Nixon of Perrysville; 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; one sister, Annette Chaussee of Colorado; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, four children, Rodney Nixon, Tamara Woolwine, Roxanne Nixon, and an infant child; and one sister, Lenora Mills.

There will be a Graveside Service at Miller Cemetery on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 2:00pm with Pastor Bob Fairchild officiating and military honors by the United States Army. Share memories and condolences online at www.SandersFuneralCare.com.
