Walter Stanley Piontek, age 88, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, in
Fairfax, Virginia. He was born on April 13, 1937, in Lackawanna, New York.
Walter attended St. Francis High School, where he excelled academically, setting the stage for a lifetime of excellence. He went on to attend Canisius College and later graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Detroit with a degree in Chemical Engineering. A gifted mind and lifelong learner, Walter was also a proud member of MENSA, a reflection of both his intellectual gifts and his passion for thoughtful engagement. Walter dedicated four decades of his professional life to Mobil Oil Corporation, where his intellect, leadership, and commitment earned him the position of Executive Vice President of Production and Exploration. His career was marked not only by exceptional accomplishments but also by the deep respect and admiration of his colleagues throughout the industry.
Walter was the beloved husband of Nancy Piontek, and a loving father and stepfather to Richard (Francine) Piontek, Kathleen Falcone, Susan (Erik) Foster, Jeffrey (Kimberly) Bell, and Jennifer Bell. He was a proud grandfather to Gina, Ashley, Christina, Anthony, Zachary, Olivia, and Addison, and a cherished great-grandfather to Liam, Rhys, Grant, and Harper. His family was the heart of his world, and he found his greatest joy in their happiness and achievements.
He is preceded in death by is parents Anna and Walter Piontek Sr., as well as his brother Eugene (Sue) Piontek. Throughout his life, Walter was known for his honesty, integrity, and deep sense of responsibility. He touched many lives with his kind heart and unwavering support. Walter's memory will be lovingly carried on by his family and friends. Though he is no longer with us, his influence endures in the values he lived by and the lives he helped shape. Funeral arrangements will be shared with family and friends in the coming days.
