Walter "Jim" Sowles Obituary
Walter James "Jim" Sowles, age 83, died peacefully sitting next to his loving wife, Kitty Sowles, on 30 November 2023 in their Baker, Florida home.
Jim was born on 16 June 1940 in Pellston, Michigan to Walter and Della Sowles. Jim enlisted in the Army in 1957 spending most of his time in Germany and separated in 1960 as an E-4 after fulfilling his commitment. Most of his career was spent in the construction industry with Jim having built several hundred houses in Michigan, Florida, and Arizona. He enjoyed music and performed with his own band for twenty-five years in Michigan singing, and playing the guitar and saxophone. Jim had a passion for flying remote controlled airplanes, building at least ten per year for over thirty years and expanding his hobby to include RC boats as well. In later years, he enjoyed playing cards and bingo.
Jim is survived by his wife, Kitty Sowles; his three children, Corinne Jenkins, Cheryl Sowles, and Veronica Tex, all of Michigan; two stepchildren, Mark Ford, and Dorla Tyson of Florida; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his stepson, Tony Ford.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the AMVETS Post 35.
Arrangements are under the care of Davis-Watkins Crestview Memorial.
