Walter Stacker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Miller Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. - Rochester on Dec. 16, 2025.
Walter M. Stacker, 89. Our beloved father and friend passed away on December 12, 2025.

Walter, "Walt", "Wally", was born in Rochester, NY. He attended St John Fisher College and obtained his BA in Accounting. After school he joined Ernst&Ernst, a public accounting firm in Buffalo. There he and Nancy lived in a vibrant neighborhood where they made friends fast. He later joined Kodak, and they moved back to Rochester, bringing them closer to family. After his career at Kodak, Walt became the Business Manager at Good Shephard Church. He volunteered there after his retirement.

Walt had many passions. He loved classical music, learning the violin as a child. He was a RPO season ticket holder. He supported WXXI, 91.5 was always on at home or in the car. He went on drives to listen to Prairie Home Companion. He was a proud member of the Good Shepherd Church choir for 53 years. He not only sang; he managed the music library and kept their sound system running.

He loved to fish with his friends and son. He taught all the kids during family trips to Black Lake, NY. He fished for salmon in the ESLO derby. The Muskie he "finally caught" still hangs in his home office as the only fish he ever had mounted. Many were released or given to others in passing that looked hungry.

He was a Bills fan and loved car racing. NASCAR, dirt track, you name it. His local favorite was Canandaigua's Land of Legends where he could watch an old classmate from St. John Fisher. There he could walk the pits with his son. For a milestone birthday, he celebrated by driving exotic cars on a gorgeous summer day. The model in the car was his daughter.

He caught the travel bug early on w/ Kodak on a trip to Hawaii. Later he joined various European trips with his Good Shepherd family. He loved discovering the various destinations on foot, the fun on the ships and the time home sharing pictures. He started to read more and reading replaced travel in his later years.

He loved to walk. Dogs were a "no-brainer" and great walking companions after Nancy's passing. He never forgot his days of service in the army by waking early. He valued his faith, friends and family. He persevered after Nancy's injury and his own bouts with cancer. He took long drives in the fall to see the leaves. His favorite fishing buddy's Paul and Jack required a hand to board a boat, which he always extended discreetly and with kindness. He and Nancy loved their cats.

Monday mornings were spent with his breakfast club. He regularly met former Kodak colleagues for lunch, dinner and the annual Christmas fete. He stayed in touch with college classmates. Their 50th reunion was a treat. His church family were near and dear to him. Those friendships, forged over many years, stood the test of time. He was one of the first on Temple road and a dear neighbor to many. He was gladly at every family reunion, summer BBQ, birthday party, wedding, etc. He continued to host our family holidays at his house, traveled to Susan's for Thanksgiving. He maintained our traditions and made it feel like home.

He was special. His hugs were the best.

Walt was predeceased by his beloved wife Nancy and parents, Stanley and Stella. He is survived by his children, Susan Stacker and David (Deanna) Stacker and many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

Friends and family may call SUNDAY Decemeber 21st from 1-4pm at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. (3325 Wiinton Rd. S, Rochester, NY 14623). Walt's Funeral Mass will be held MONDAY December 22nd at 2pm in St. Marianne Cope Parish (2061 E. Henrietta Rd., Rochester, NY 14623). Interment Pine Hill Cemetery.

Dad donated to several organizations including the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, WXXI, Food Link, St. Marianne Cope Church Henrietta, and the Wilmot Cancer Center at the U of R. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests you consider making a charitable donation in his memory to one of these organizations.

So sorry to hear about Walt's passing. I worked with Walt in Building 110 Silver Recovery at Kodak Park. He was a great co-worker and friend and we had a lot of laughs together. Our condolences to his family, I know he will be missed.

Walt and Nancy were already living on Temple Rd when we moved in next door to them in 1977. We watched Sue and David grow up and move away just as they watched our boys grow up and move away. They were great neighbors! Walt can now join Nancy in Heaven.

Fondly,
