Walter Szeremeta, 86, of The Villages, FL, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 29, 2025. He was born on February 1, 1939, in Kostopol, Poland, to Stanley and Stella (Novacek) Szeremeta. Walter honorably served his country in the United States Navy. In 1964, while still in service, he married the love of his life, Carol Mary (Woodward) Szeremeta. After his military service, he began a long and successful career with Owens-Illinois, Inc., a glass bottling company, where he worked for 37 years before retiring. In 2005, Walter and Carol relocated from Bardstown, Kentucky, to The Villages, FL, where they embraced retirement and community life. He was a devoted member of St. Timothy's Catholic Church in Lady Lake, FL, and proudly served as a Knight of Columbus. Walter was a man of many passions. He enjoyed golfing, gardening-especially growing vegetables and roses-and spending time in his garage tinkering with cars. His hands were rarely idle, and his heart was always generous. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Carol, who passed away on May 21, 2020, just one day before her 78th birthday, and by his son, William Szeremeta. Walter is survived by his sons: Jim of Ohio, and Brian (Angela) of Massachusetts; daughter-in-law, Lani of North Carolina; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends who will miss his warmth, humor, and unwavering spirit. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, with inurnment to follow at Florida National Cemetery. Service details will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Banks/Page-Theus Funerals and Cremations, Wildwood. Online condolences may be shared at https://www.bankspagetheus.com.
