Bernhardy, 88, of Kirkland, IL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
Wanda was born in Bloomington, IL on September 7, 1936, to Lloyd D. and Ferne I. (Shaffer) Jones. She grew up in El Paso, IL, where she graduated from El Paso High School as Salutatorian in 1954.
On April 8, 1956, Wanda married Marvin J. Bernhardy, and they happily shared the next 68 years.
Wanda held a variety of jobs over the years including switchboard operator for the El Paso Phone company. She spent 31 years employed in a variety of positions by what was the State Bank of Kirkland. She was also the Kirkland Village Treasurer for 30 years. Wanda was active in numerous church and civic organizations, often serving as treasurer.
She delighted in watching her children and grandchildren compete in athletic events. Wanda was a devoted bridge player. She loved games and competitions of any type. She was a lifelong Cubs fan and held a special spot for the Bulls teams of the 1990s. Wanda's family was always her truest passion.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin J. Bernhardy, Kirkland, IL; her children, Mark (Becky) Bernhardy, Hinckley, IL and Lisa (Robert) Coyle, DeKalb, IL; three grandchildren, Michael Bernhardy, Belleville, IL, David (Sarah Bieber) Bernhardy, Chicago, IL, and Alexandra (Chris Yetter) Bernhardy, Park Ridge, IL. A sister, Jerilyn (David) Brownell, Stratham, NH and a brother, Jon Jones, Clayton, GA, sisters in law, Sandra Radebaugh, Kris Bernhardy and Judy Bernhardy along with numerous much loved nieces, nephews, and great nieces also survive.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Charles Jones; two brothers in law, Carl Radebaugh and Veryl Bernhardy.
Friends may call on Friday, October 25, 2024, at Quiram Kirkland Chapel, 309 S. Fifth St., Kirkland, IL from 4 until 7 pm.
A funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 26, 2024 at First Lutheran Church, 510 W. South St., Kirkland IL, with interment to follow at Maple Cemetery in Kirkland.
Memorials can be made to the First Lutheran Church, Kirkland or a charity of the donor's choice.
