It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Wanda Jean McLaughlin.
She was born on April 18, 1930, in Wheeler TX, to Alma Pauline and Gilbert Eugene Shaffer. She departed from this life on September 5, 2025, in Amarillo, TX. She leaves behind a family who loved her and a legacy of laughter, stories, and memories.
Wanda was known for her love of desserts, a treat she could never resist. She took joy in the simple pleasures of life, with green being her favorite color, embodying both her love for life and her down-to-earth personality. She enjoyed singing and worshiping twice a week, with Pastor Scott, as well as playing bingo and having her nails done.
Wanda was a woman of lively spirit and a keen sense of humor, often sharing stories from her past that kept everyone engaged, often with a hint of blush from her candidness. These stories included memorable snippets from her childhood, filled with hard work on the farm alongside her daddy, a time that she remembered fondly.
Wanda's culinary journey began only after her marriage to Calvin McLaughlin, at the tender age of 16, under the guidance of her mother-in-law. Despite this late start, she developed an insatiable taste for desserts and sweet treats, which she often happily indulged in.
Her absence will also be deeply felt by those who preceded her in death: her loving parents; her brother, Bobby Mac Shaffer; her sister, Joann Bradford; and her husband. She is survived by her loving sister, Virginia Shaffer Romo, and husband, of Shallowater, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
Wanda's warm spirit, her knack for storytelling, and her zestful love for life will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those she leaves behind, as they continue to remember and cherish the memories and love she shared.
