Mrs. Wanda Elaine Rose Sexton, 77, entered into glory on Sunday, June 16, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family at Hospice House of Dayton. A celebration of life service will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home (Centerville) at 3:00pm on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 2:00-3:00pm. Burial will be held immediately following the service at Springboro Cemetery.
Born in Middletown, Ohio on January 16, 1947, Wanda is the daughter of the late Lorhum Virginia Rose & Barnett C. Rose of Franklin, Ohio. After graduating from Franklin High School, Wanda attended Middletown Business School before beginning a secretarial career with the Black Clawson Company. Her primary job was a homemaker until her children grew more independent when Wanda began a new career as an administrative assistant at The Star Free Press in Springboro, Ohio then eventually moving to The Middletown Journal, where she worked until retiring.
In 1968, Wanda met William “Bill” Sexton, who would become the love of her life. They were married on December 22, 1969, and settled in Franklin Township. God blessed their union with two children and Wanda delighted in caring for her family and in making a lovely home. The young family attended Glendale Tabernacle Pentecostal Church, pastored by the late Rev. Jerry Back. There, Wanda received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and faithfully served Christ Jesus. By the grace given to her by God, she and her husband raised their children to grow strong in the faith.
Wanda loved her family deeply and nothing brought her greater joy than to share life with them. Her favorite holidays were Christmas, when the family would gather to decorate and look at lights, and Independence Day, where the parade and fireworks display were the family highlights. She also enjoyed playing the piano, collecting music boxes, thrifting, watching Hallmark movies, and spending time in the park.
Wanda was a devoted daughter, faithful wife, loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by William O. Sexton (“Bill”), her husband of 54 years, and their daughter, Shelley M. Bethea (Sheldon), and son, William J. Sexton (Jessica) as well as six precious grandchildren and one great granddaughter who shares the name of “Rose” in her honor.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the kind and compassionate staff at Dayton Hospice House as well as Newcomer Funeral Home & Springboro Cemetery for helping us provide a lovely lady with a beautiful homegoing.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: The Gideons International, P.O. Box 9725, Washington, DC 20090. We pray that each donated Gideon Bible will reveal God’s Word, reach the lost and teach the saved.
