Wanda VanAuken

Hudson - Wanda Van Auken (10/30/1924--11/15/2022) passed away November 15, 2022, at the age of 98. Preceding her in death are her parents, Walyn and Lena (Smith) Austin, and husband, Robert (Bob). Wanda attended school in Hudson and after graduation in 1942, she obtained her pilot's licence at the age of 19 from Adrian, Michigan, and she joined the Civil Air Patrol. She married Bob Van Auken on September 16,1944 and they enjoyed 59 wonderful years together, raising two children who survive: Thomas (Dawn) Van Auken from Jackson, Michigan, and Kathy (Bill) Osterberg, from Sebring, Florida. Also surviving are a granddaughter, Cindy Van Auken (Rich), three great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and several cousins. Wanda worked at Thompson Savings Bank in Hudson. After she and Bob retired, they became "snowbirds" to Florida for the winters, residing in Palmetto. They spent many happy winters there until 2002 when they returned to Hudson full time. Wanda enjoyed golf (won several trophies), was an avid reader, and loved playing cards, especially Bridge with her special friends. She will be remembered by her love for her family, her caring and giving heart, her always-ready smile, and her great attitude about life. She was a fine example of a human being from which many people benefited.
Funeral services for Wanda will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at Eagle-Marry Funeral Home, Hudson with Rev. William Van Valkenburg officiating. Burial will be held in Maple Grove Cemetery.
