Warren Joseph "Sonny" Brelia, 87, of the Telegraph Road, Peru, died Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the North Country.
He was born in Plattsburgh at CVPH (Champlain Valley then), October 21, 1936 the son of Warren Harden and Alma Gertrude (Sorrell) Brelia. Warren graduated from Peru High School in 1955.
He worked for his father at Peru Motor Sales - Chevrolet Dealer until 1956 while attending high school. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1956 and served proudly until his honorable discharge in 1963. His first child, Brenda, was born in 1962. In 1963, he worked at Meadowmount School of Music. His second child, Suzanne, was born in 1963.
From 1966-1968 he was a business owner and operator at Ron Texaco Garage "Brelia's Texaco" in Peru. 1968 he worked as a Civilian as Steam Fitter on PAFB at Central Heat until 1970. In 1969, his third child, Joseph was born.
In 1970 Warren enrolled at Oswego College and went to work for BOCES with a temp certification in Small Engines and Industrial Ag. He took summer and special courses at Plattsburgh State and Hudson Community College than transferred to College of Technology of Utica Rome where he received his BS Degree. Warren started teaching the Auto Mechanics class in 1980 which was previously taught by Mr. Cook.
Warren married Brenda Ann Lapham, August 17, 1991. Fourth child, Amelia was born January 4, 1992. He retired from BOCES on June 31, 1992.
Warren was a life member at the Keeseville Elks Lodge #2072 since 1968 he served on the House Committee, was a Trustee, and also an Officer; Moose Lodge since 1993; paid life member - American Legion Post 504 and served as Color Guard at Post 504 and an Officer; started at Post 20 in 1966; he was a paid life member of 40 & 8 Club (Part of Veterans); Chef de Gare 2010-2011, a DESA (Destroyer Escort Sailors Association); and he was a Peru Fire Department social member from 2015 - 2020.
Left to cherish the memory of Warren are; his wife, Brenda Brelia; children, Amelia (Chad) Davis, Joseph Brelia, Suzanne (David) Burnett, and Brenda (Glen) LaMoy, step- grandson Jakob; 5 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and his sister, Cynthia B. Perry.
He was predeceased by his parents.
At Warren's request there will be no public calling hours. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 10:30 am at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, with Rev. William G. Reamer, officiating. Warren's favorite color was red, please consider wearing a little red to the service. Committal prayers, full military honors, and burial will follow in St. Augustine's Cemetery in Peru. A reception will follow with details to be announced at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations in memory of Warren J. Brelia can be made to the Peru Fire Department or the Elmore SPCA.
