Warren Gee passed away peacefully at 89 years old, surrounded by family members and by his skilled caregivers at Water's Edge Lodge in
Alameda, CA.
Warren was born in
Oakland, California, to Gee Yin Look, a Chinatown laundry shop owner, and Yee Shee, a seamstress. During World War II, he had fond memories of his childhood and spent many days with friends and classmates from Lincoln Elementary School who affectionately gave him the nickname "Feet."
Upon graduating from high school, Warren joined the U.S. Army, where he served in the engineering division as a draftsman after completing basic training in Texas. After the Army, he returned to Oakland, where he met and married Linda Lee in 1966, then settled in Alameda to raise a family.
Warren worked for a few years for a civil engineering consulting firm, then joined the East Bay Regional Parks District, where he spent over 40 years of his career in the civil engineering division.
Outside of work, Warren spent every day jogging up to seven miles; when his body could no longer sustain this, he would walk this distance, especially along Alameda's South Shore Beach and Crab Cove. With his wife Linda, he enjoyed traveling to Italy, Greece, and U.S. National Parks. He enjoyed playing basketball and softball with his friends on Bay Farm Island. Classical music brought him joy and comfort.
Warren was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Linda Gee. He is survived by his children, Becky Gee, Kevin Gee, and Karen Zeller, his son-in-law, Matthias Zeller, and grandson Max Zeller.
His memorial will be held at Greer Family Mortuary in Alameda on Thursday, February 5th. Visitation will begin at 10:00am with service to begin at 11:00am. Donations to East Bay Regional Parks Foundation would be greatly appreciated. https://www.regionalparksfoundation.org/
