Warren "Dale" Shotwell, Sr., age 68, of Avenue, MD, died in Elizabeth City, NC on Friday, May 30, 2025. Born in Leonardtown, MD, to the late Frank Shotwell and Anne Montgomery Shotwell, he was the husband of Melissa Adamson Shotwell.
Dale was a remarkable individual whose life was characterized by his skill, compassion, and warmth. As an accomplished carpenter, his intuition and craftsmanship were evident in every project he undertook. Dale had an enduring love for classic cars and was a devoted fan of the Baltimore Orioles.
Known for his remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life, Dale was a friend to everyone he met. He offered help to anyone in need, always ready with a kind word or a helping hand. His storytelling prowess, sense of humor, and exceptional memory made him the life of any gathering, captivating those around him with tales and jokes that would be remembered long after.
Dale's passion extended beyond his personal interests, as he also dedicated time to coaching baseball, sharing his love for the game with younger generations. Above all, he cherished his family, providing them with unwavering love and support throughout his life.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Aubrey Olkowski (Joe) of Tyner, NC, Cailtin Shotwell of Hertford, NC, Courtney Fyffe (Zach) of Elizabeth City, NC, and Lydia Shotwell, of Avenue, MD; his son, Warren D. Shotwell, Jr. of Avenue, MD; sisters, Jackie Lathroum (Ricky) of Mechanicsville, MD, Gail Thompson of Hollywood, MD, and Dana Taylor (John) of Mechanicsville, MD; brothers, Wayne Shotwell (Ruth Ann) of Chaptico, MD and Glenn Shotwell (Susie) of Bushwood, MD; grandchildren, Skylar, Mary, Connor, Josie, and David; his best friend, Kurt Marchant; his beloved fur babies, Annie, Ruby, Cobra, and Dobby; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and numerous close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Eddie Shotwell.
Dale will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and craftsmanship.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at American Legion Post 221, 12690 Colton Point Road, Avenue, MD 20609.
Donations of gifts or flowers will be accepted at the Celebration of Life location.
