TROY - Warren T. Thompson, age 99, of Troy, OH passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 20, 2025. He was born in Nolan, WV on June 6, 1926, being born to his late parents William "Willie" Thompson and Lenora "Nora" (Elkins) Thompson West. Willie unfortunately passed away shortly after Warren was born, allowing Nora's second husband, Wayne West, to become his dad.
On July 1, 1955, in Troy, OH, Warren married a wonderfully kind woman from Meta, KY, Betty "Bette" L. Elswick. She succumbed to cancer in April 2012. Warren grew up in Williamson, WV.
He worked as a brakeman for the Norfolk & Western Railway. In 1944, at the age of 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he would then enter WWII, being stationed in Germany and Czechoslovakia.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Baird Funeral Home in Troy, OH. Interment will follow at Miami Memorial Park with full military honors, Covington, OH. Warren is my my grandpa. He loved to go bird watching. One day we was standing outside and he said come here. You hear that. That's a Bob white. Want to knkw how to recognize Bob Whites. They sing there name Bob white. I went bird watching with him once. I learned about Cardinals, blue jays, woodpeckers and I cant remeber the name of this bird but if I here it sing ots sone I will know.
I love and miss you grandpa and Darci my youngest grand daughter shares your love of trains.
